Bit niche interest but here are the formulae that will be provided for students next June.

twitter.com/robotmaths/status/1449248411375611905?s=21

It includes stuff like sohcahtoa for trig, and the formula for the area of a trapezium. The attached are the extra formulae that will be provided, other formulae such as volume of a sphere that would have previously been given will be given as normal in the question.

Teachers - better start thinking about implications for mocks!

November 2021 resitters will not get this.

Thanks noble. DD has mocks next week (as I guess have other schools who are going very early so as to be sure that potential future Covid restrictions don't prevent this cohort getting an opportunity to sit exams under proper exam conditions). So is disgusted that she has spent time learning these :) Though I've told her it's still better if she knows them and doesn't have to look them up.

Thank you for this @noblegiraffe

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/10/2021 20:08

Thanks noble. I'll start using these in class now so they have a chance of using them properly by the time they get to the real exam. I have 2 lower Foundation classes this year though, so while the formula sheet could be useful, they are less likely to understand the formulae on it, if that makes sense. We'll definitely need some real practice on the skill of deciding which formula to use and how to use it. Better than having to learn the formulae though.

Is there a printable link somewhere?

noblegiraffe · 18/10/2021 16:27

I don't think it's 'officially' out yet, AQA said that students would be given two sections of the spec that they would normally be expected to know, and someone just took those bits and put them together.

I think the official sheet when it comes out will look friendlier, and have some pictures.

Thanks. It's all a bit moot here anyway right now.

noblegiraffe · 18/11/2021 19:28

Oh. The official sheet is out and it's a pile of wank.

This is apparently what it looks like at Foundation. How foundation kids are meant to understand it (and not actively be confused by the trig formulae not being SOHCAHTOA) is beyond me.

The explanation for compound interest. The use of 'perpendicular separation' instead of height for area of a trapezium.

Who the bloody hell signed this off?

Needs diagrams!
That is a shoddy piece of work ☹️

Speaking for a DD who needs things straightforward, I can confirm she would be more confused than helped if presented with that in an exam.

I guess though that if they are made familiar with it beforehand it might work.

But 'perpendicular separation'? Really??

Smile Pile of wank.
Best description I've heard.
I had to think the probability formula through Sad
Only useful to the most able, poor foundation kids
