Apologies for the first world problems post, no offence intended.

DC in Y6 and secondary school applications are upon us. We went to the open day at The King's School Worcester, we found the school to be absolutely captivating and DC would definitely like to apply for Y7 for next year..
However, FIL is employed at RGSW and qualifies for a fee remission (we have been to previous open days there, and it's also a really good school!)..but can you see my quandary?! We REALLY liked King's...Confused both are great schools, but King's evokes that gut feeling. RGSW would offer a decent fee remission Confused

Has anyone been in such a position and how did you resolve it?! Or DC at either of those schools?

Mine went to Kings and it's definitely superior IMO. We also viewed both schools and just got a much better 'vibe' at Kings. Felt that their approach was to achieve the best for your child, whatever that may be, whereas RGS were a bit more 'pupils go on to careers in law, medicine etc'.
My kids definitely say that Kings senior is a better school.
However, the substantial fee reduction to go to RGS would be difficult to ignore

And just to say....consider the location. We were Kings side of town so it was very easy. The drive across town is not that easy in the morning so that could be a factor.

We all went to view both schools and ultimately gave our kids the choice and they chose Kings.

Thanks @secretsout

My DC will be getting the train in, both schools about equidistant from Worcester Foregate! Even more confused! Confused

DC at RGS in year 8, been there since he was 3, I suppose having chosen Springfield for prep we were on the conveyor belt though there were a movement both ways at that point. We're very pleased with it but will never know if he'd have preferred Kings. Very strong on pastoral side, but the kings buildings are nicer and the boat house is fab!

....Hmmalso now a bit annoyed that staff get fee remission (50% for full timers) for grandchildren! They might have loads....keeps fees high for the rest of us!!!

Kings Worcester is excellent. I have quite a lot of knowledge about it and rate it highly.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it, highly unlikely our DS will be going there! Much prefer Kings!

@theyregonnaknow it's the general policy I object to, not your individual circumstances per se!

Sorry to try and resurrect the thread but I’m curious how you got on in the end.

Have a kid in Kings. I can honestly say it's a dreadful school and could never recommend it. The Teaching and pastoral care is not great. It has definitely gone down hill. Let's just hope that the new Head will get it back up to what it used to be. No doubt, it'll take a few years though.

Why haven’t you pulled your child out?
