Hi, looking for independent schools in Kent/East Sussex area with strengths in Academic but also with good pastoral care and opportunities in sports and music.

Many thanks in advance

Well, there are loads - perhaps you need to narrow it down a bit. First things first - are you looking for boys/girls/coed? Boarding or day? 11+ or 13+ entry? Any preference for A level vs IB?

Thank you - I'm looking for boys/co-Ed, day, 11 or 13+ entry and A levels.

If day, then location is presumably pretty important. Maybe Tonbridge or Ardingly or Caterham if you're looking for boarding school facilities but still with a good number of day pupils. (Technically Caterham is in Surrey, but popular with people in the north west corner of Kent.)

Thank you so much! Will look into each of them

I’ve a friend with a DS in Claremont (outside Hastings, E Sussex) who is both bright and sporty. Academically it’s supposed to be good but I don’t know the stats. Or you could look at Battle Abbey (Battle, E Sussex).

Ardingly is in West Sussex, bit of a drive for a day pupil from either E Sussex or Kent!

For Kent Independents - you’ll find a list here with reviews (which tend to be a little gushy but reading between the lines will give you an idea of the strengths and weaknesses of various schools!)

Good point, I'm mixing up my Sussexes. Though I do know people with kids at Ardingly who live in Tunbridge Wells. But then I'm always amazed by how far people commute to school.

LIZS · 24/09/2021 17:28

There are school buses to Ardingly from Westerham and Tunbridge Wells so not impossible.

And actually, the geography means that some bits of Kent are just as near W Sussex as E Sussex (though I appreciate the PP did say E Sussex, my mistake).

Now I feel bad for picking you up on it 🙂! I’m guessing with the E Sussex/Kent brief that the OP might be in the Wadhurst/Robertsbridge/Battle/Hawkhurst kind of area where kids tend to either go to school in Kent or E Sussex. But I’m making assumptions here!
