Realising the open day season is upon us and feeling overwhelmed with so many schools to choose from.
Can anyone recommend state or independent, a school for a bright boy who is autistic and apparently highly intelligent in his state primary, although I'm aware it's a different standard to the independent sector. My son presents as somewhat ADHD, but can be very focussed when not chatting or distracting others.
He is of a decent standard on several musical instruments including a lesser played orchestral one and loves sport, especially cricket.
Would suit a school that is nurturing and understanding but also structured and calm. Small classes also a bonus. Good to high academic achievement and opportunities for decent sports and music activities would be important too.

Any recommendations? I would be very grateful for opinions.

If he as an aptitude for music you could try for a music scholarship to Hatcham College (Haberdashers), but applications need to be in on Monday. I don’t know what their SEN support is like but it’s a sought after school. www.habshatcham.org.uk/Music-Specialism-Application/

I’ve heard good things about SEN support at Knights Academy, which is also under the Haberdashers umbrella, but it is not traditionally a popular school. They do a sports scholarship too.

I’ve heard very mixed things about SEN support in various schools, so it’s really hard to say “definitely this one”. A lot of schools say the right things but don’t necessarily do them…
