A level combo (how much do your kids listen?)

Daughter has decided to switch her A level combo to one which makes no sense at all, especially for the degree she wants to do. She's pretty stubborn and won't even entertain a discussion.

I'm aware she's 16 and there are decisions now which are hers - but I think this is one she will come to regret?

Anyone else had a similar dilemma - and what did you do?

Well, she has made the switch, she says nobody talked to her about it, they just rearranged her timetable.

It's still very early days in the term yet so she could make a further change, I'm sure.

I'm going to sit with her and go through the degree courses she has found so far, look for some more and look at how much her A level choices are going to restrict her options. If she is happy with the restrictions then that's her choice... It's hard though as I do genuinely think she might regret the switch but I know I have to bit my tongue and let her work that out for herself. She's the one who's got to study for the next 2 years, not me, and it's her career choice.

Thank you everyone. Lots of useful perspectives :)

I am very much in the I wouldn't worry brigade.

DS is doing 2 A Levels that go together and one random.

The first 2 are the subjects he got the best grades in and was always going to do, and then the third is something he loves.

His second highest grade at GCSE was Geography, but he just doesn't like it and couldn't see himself doing another 2 years.

He has no idea what he wants to do, everyone has always thought it would be a Maths degree, but I'm not sure at all he'll study that beyond A Levels, so on reflection he has picked subjects that would enable Maths somewhere, but also opened other doors.

I think it's more important they're happy with what they're doing now, the future can be sorted when it comes, which is probably a terrible view to have but it's the one I'm sticking with Hmm.
