AS Level Film or EPQ?

Dds school has added Film to the A level choices but it's only an AS Level apparently. Dd really wants to study film and was hoping this was going to be added as a full A level. Other A levels will be two from English Lit, Business, Economics, Psychology, History.

Is there any benefit afa uni applications go in doing an As Level? My other dcs have done EPQs which got them lower offer grades from RG unis (had to get A in Epq)

Not all courses or unis offer a grade reduction for EPQ so it may be worth checking the sort of courses that your DD is interested in to see whether an EPQ would be worth it in those terms.

She has no idea what she wants to do at uni.

Your DD could produce a film as her EPQ artefact. She would need to research and write a 1500 word report as well as complete all the paperwork but I think EPs are not to be underestimated. Before anyone starts to complain, I do have a vested interest in that I teach the EPQ, but can see just what excellent preparation it is for study at the next level.

Ah, I misunderstood - I thought she wanted to do film at uni.

So would she only do 2 A levels and an AS? Most unis require 3 or equivalent.

It might be worth querying with the school why they aren't offering it as a full A level.

But I'd say choose three other subjects and add film as an AS. That way if the school changes its mind and decides to offer it as an A level, your daughter will be well placed to swap subject. If not, she will at least have studied it for a year and will have an AS.

I also assume you mean that she needs 3 from the other subjects as they aren't doing Film to A level.
