Asking for a friend who's isn't on here..She is looking for recommendations for good dyslexia schools in North London and surrounding areas, Hertfordshire...etc...
Also looking for a good SPLD tutor who will travel to my friend who is based in Enfield.

Thanks in advance.

You can find dyslexia tutors on www.PATOSS-dyslexia.org

Thanks Stoolpigeon21 think she's exhausted that website. Very hard to find good tutors...

Is she looking for a private or state school

Soontobe60 · 30/07/2021 12:54

What do you mean by a ‘dyslexia’ school?

Pjtime · 30/07/2021 12:54

There aren’t any in Herts. The closest state is Forest Hall in Stanstead which is a mainstream with a dyslexia unit. There’s an independent dyslexia school in Cambridge called Holme Court which a few Herts children attend.

The best place to look is at the CRESTED website

crested.org.uk/parents-find-a-school.html

Soontobe60 her DD is 9 yrs old and is struggling to concentrate and follow the teachers instructions in mainstream. She would ideally like her to have an SPLD qualified TA on a one to one basis for the core subjects. But does this exist ?
To answer your question she would consider a mainstream with good dyslexia support.

Stoolpigeon21 ideally state. She'd probably have to go to tribunal I'd imagine for LA to fund privates fees?

Pjtime thanks for your recommendations. I've passed these on. They are based in Enfield so would imagine Stanstead may be quite far.

CornflowersInTheLongGrass thank you, I will pass this on....

The Waltham Forest Dyslexia centre provides excellent tuition;however, I imagine there is a long waiting list

Pjtime · 30/07/2021 13:49

@Looking2Move does your friends Dd have an EHCP? She could get SpLD qualified 1-1 written into an EHCP but would need strong evidence and would probably need to go to tribunal. Looking at the crested list there are quite a few schools in London, they would be worth fighting for rather than 1-1 time.

It might also be a good idea for her to speak to the Helen Arkell centre for advice
