Would you be uncomfortable about this - sweets being offered to children to attend an extra curricular club?

A while back (pre-lockdowns etc) one of my dcs mentionned that lots of pupils (including her) attend the "Rainbow Club" because the teacher gives out sweets to everyone at the meetings, I must admit that I didn't think much about it at the time. However, whilst chatting to another mother the other day she mentioned that her daughter had told her that loads of children attend the club for the sweets and she thought it a bit odd to be offering sweets at a club. So this has now got me thinking that it does feel a bit odd! I'd be interested to hear MNers' views given that all the clubs will be starting up again.

@Fifthtimelucky

I don't think secondary schools should be bribing children with sweets to do anything. Childhood obesity is a big enough problem as it is.
I was just about to make the same comment. OP, check out the Wellbeing or Food in school policy

All kids love sweets, food etc. If you teach as I do, they love this kind of thing, even stickers right up to 18!! If your child wants to go to the club, then they will go. A member of staff is giving up their precious free time to give students a safe space to talk/share really important stuff and people moan about a few sweets. You have no idea how much kids need groups like this and how much they appreciate the staff who run them.

I teach and occasionally give out sweets for example at Easter they might get some mini eggs or choc lolly from Lidl. For Christmas I hide sweets in shoes. They love it & still remember it. I don't think anyone has ever opted for the subject based on the occasional sweets and chocolate they get.

I imagine the teacher is giving up their own time & money for the sweets. It would be a shame if you complained about it as they are just trying to be nice.

It was a long time ago, but we lived next door to seventh day Adventists even I was a kid.
I occasionally went to church with them as I was friendly with the DD the same age as me and we played a lot and spent a lot of time in each other's houses.
I loved going to their church because I liked the chewy bars they gave to all the children at the end of the service!
