A-level & GCSE results day 2022?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/06/2021 15:23

Anyone know when these are likely to be? Trying to plan a big holiday and I also work in a school so can't go early after exams are finished.

I THINK A-level results might be Thurs 18 Aug (third Thurs in Aug) and GCSEs on the 25th but not sure if both are a week earlier.

A level - Tue, 10 August and GCSE Thur 12, August.

Without wishing to be rude - do you work in a secondary school? Because every local school round us has the dates plastered on their website as headlines.

And google told me the dates in about 5 seconds.

xyzandabc · 27/06/2021 15:29

Bear in mind that the dates changed this year to both be in the same week. JCQ don't even have provisional dates for next summer, so no one really knows.

It's so hard if you're trying to plan things but it's all just so uncertain.

MadMadMadamMim · 27/06/2021 15:31

Apologies, OP! I thought you were asking for this year. My mistake!

xyzandabc · 27/06/2021 15:31

That's this year's dates. The OP is asking about 2022.

Your reply really was quite rude.

xyzandabc · 27/06/2021 15:32

Cross post. Glad you realised your error!

UserAtRandom · 27/06/2021 15:34

A Levels are generally a Thursday "teen" date in August and GCSEs the week after.

So, if I had to guess (and it would be a guess) I'd say A Level results on the 18th August 2022 and GCSEs on the 25th?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/06/2021 15:50

Hmmm...yes, it's all just guesswork, I suppose. I was hoping that an exams officer may pop on with some inside knowledge. Grin

OK, slightly different question.....does anyone know when provisional dates are likely to come out? (or has that all been delayed by bloody COVID too) I know they're dithering about whether exams will be based on a reduced curriculum or not, considering how those year groups have had their learning affected over 2 academic years too.

As a mother who child is awaiting A level results I can confirm its 10th August and 12th for GCSE so a worrying time when they have missed so much face to face learning and assessment removed

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/06/2021 15:57

@MadMadMadamMim Well, at least you weren't on your own in your error. Grin

Good luck to your child with his/her results, @simplelife100. Not looking forward to next year when I have both mine going through big exams!

Sorry, in a normal year provisional dates for both exams and results would have been published several months ago.

We would have been able to pull out provisional exam timetables for next summer by Easter or so this year. So again, it's not a normal year and no one knows anything. Frustrating but understandable.

As a pp made the same mistake, the op is asking about 2022, not 2021
simplelife100 · 27/06/2021 16:24

@CurlyhairedAssassin thank you I also have one who will be doing GCSE next year I'm hoping exams don't go ahead as I feel they have missed out on a very important academic year of learning, hopefully results from this year will be good and correct as much as possible that the system can be used for next year

simplelife100 · 27/06/2021 16:25

@CarrieBlue oh sorry @CurlyhairedAssassin next year dates are not out yet I don't think the exam broads are sure what they will do in terms of grading for next year GCSE and A levels results

CarrieBlue · 27/06/2021 16:35

The exam boards have had no information from ofqual about next year, other than ofqual think there will need to adaptations to the usual exams. Results for this year have been incredibly difficult to put together and I doubt that teachers will be willing to do the exam boards’ jobs for them again. This year’s ‘system’ will not be the same next year.

Neotraditional · 27/06/2021 16:40

In the same vein have they decided what they will be doing in terms of grades, exams etc? The cohort taking the exams next year have missed an awful lot of teaching so do you think allowances will be made for this?

I know I can google but wasn’t sure if this is a discussion that’s being had in secondary schools at present. Surely teachers need to know soon so they can plan their lessons accordingly?

JCQ hadn’t decided what was happening with this year’s grade awards until just before Easter, next year won’t have crossed their minds yet. Teachers will be so far down the list of ‘need to know’ the kids will probably hear before them, and the DfE will change their guidance multiple times before next summer, usually late on Sunday evening ready for implementation the next day. Have you really not taken any notice of what you’ve been told by many teachers on so many threads in the last eighteen months?
Neotraditional · 27/06/2021 20:34

@CarrieBlue how rude! I haven’t been on any such threads and no teacher has told me anything.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/06/2021 20:42

I saw rumours last week that one of the covid mitigation's next year might be that a level and gcse exams may be later than usual. I don't know if that could have a knock on effect. Would be a nightmare for universities though.

CarrieBlue · 27/06/2021 21:29

@Neotraditional - you’ve expressed an interest in a topic that has been endlessly debated, I’m very surprised you haven’t read any of the many threads around this topic h that there have been, where many teachers have posted about the situation schools have been in. I used ‘you’ve been told’ as a general ‘you’ve’ rather than personal to you, I apologise if that was confusing but I really don’t think I’ve been rude, but if I’ve offended you I apologise. If this really is the first time that you’ve come across the idea that teachers are the last to know what’s going on or that we somehow have some inside knowledge rather than being told of changes to education policy regarding Covid at exactly the same time as the general public then I’m even more surprised and you must be a little shocked.

Neotraditional · 27/06/2021 21:50

@CarrieBlue I’m not a teacher so have no knowledge of your profession and I’m interested now as I have a child moving up into Yr 11 in September. I’m sorry to hear you (as in the teaching profession) are not kept well informed- that is both shocking and scary as we rely on you all to provide our children with the best education you can.

I suppose it’s a fruitless hope that decisions are made sooner rather than later and I can’t imagine the stress this must cause you all.

I’m definitely not one of those people who thinks teachers have an easy time with short days and long holidays - it’s an extremely demanding job seemingly made more difficult by inept govt officials dithering over when/how to do exams.

For the sake of all those doing exams next year and those teaching them, I hope you get the guidance you need and quickly 🌸

Neotraditional · 27/06/2021 21:54

It’s not just universities it’ll affect, it’s the lives of those who work in secondary schools. I don’t think it’s fair that teachers work into their summer holidays nor have to sacrifice time with their own families.

My child has just done some mock GCSEs and the papers were shorter than usual; could this be an option?

CurlyhairedAssassin · 27/06/2021 22:01

I can’t see them running exams later. Timings are tight enough as it is, with results and clearing etc.

I keep reading that the exam content will be less broad. Who knows?

@Neotraditional - thanks Flowers

yellowstoneranch · 01/09/2021 11:46

I've just googled this same thing as we are entering Yr 11 - it looks like everyone is waiting on an announcement during the Autumn term for GCSE results day 2022! GCSE's are usually 3rd Thursday in August s should be 18th unless they do the same as this year and release a week earlier?
