GCSE 2021 What has your school done about PE?

DD is in year 11 and has taken GCSE PE. She was predicted an 8, but we have no idea what her TAG will be as school have completely closed down communications.

This has extended to us and her not even knowing what sports she has been assessed in! We were told at the start of year 11 that it would be reduced to two sports not three, but it doesn't sound like she has been able to choose what sports those are. The kids have just done the sports they they could do within their PE classes, and we know nothing more.

DD competes at a sport outside school at a decent level, but we can only assume that isn't being counted, whereas her performance in table tennis or badminton might be, which she has not really played very much at all - only in class PE lessons.

School repeatedly told us not to contact them about GCSE as it was distracting them from their assessment work, so now we are left in the dark.

Has DD been disadvantaged or is this the case for other kids?

Hopeful bump for anyone with a DC in year 11 who has taken GCSE PE Grin

DS opted for PE as one of his options but it's been an absolute disaster. He had planned on 2 sports in school, one outside. After the first lockdown he couldn't go back to the one outside of school so it was decided that everything would be assesed in school (when it was reduced to 2 anyway).

However in September he got Covid and things went downhill from there. By December he was suffering with chronic fatigue, joint pain and costochondritis.

We're now over six months on (and he's feeling only slightly better). He tells me they've watched him participating in sport during school time so I assume they're going to try and come up with some kind of mark but we have had no info from the school at all.

To be honest I have pretty much written off PE (as i'm more concerned about his health) which is a shame as he was predicted a 9 just before the first lockdown.

Ds was assessed using one external sport and one done in school. His external one was his stronger one so the school gave us the gcse spec and guidance for what needed to be included in each of the video samples and we did the recordings they asked for.
We didn’t get any feedback on the assessment element other than if any of the recordings needed redoing if they’d been done wrong. The specs were very specific on how they had to be recorded.

I’ll add that he didn’t get choice over his second sport assessment and it definitely wasn’t what he would have chosen, just what the school was able to get put in place to assess them on.
I guess most schools would have struggled for the PE assessments and had to make some tough decisions on how best to do it.

DS was assessed on 2 of his chosen sports. They had to provide video evidence of outside school (DS was able to do this from September to Christmas) and then they managed to do the rest in school. He initially chose football (outside school) and athletics/cricket in school.

A huge part is the theory element. DS is hoping for an 8. He is planning on A level PE then a sports science Degree.

It sounds like schools have approached this very differently. However the exam board specs for the sports are very clear, so I don't see how kids this year can get the top grades as they just won't have had the opportunity to gain the skills due to the pandemic. Especially if they are being assessed on sports they don't normally do, while other kids are being assessed on sports they excel at.

What seems as bad is the fact that schools (well certainly DDs) have told us nothing about how they are doing this. DD is very good at sport, but more so with ones that are done outside of school, and we have not been asked for any evidence whatsoever. Would this be appeal-able do you think, if she ends up with a low grade?
