Kingscote I hope your DD has had a fabulous day. Gutted about Federer.

Monkey Thank you for thread link. Really useful!

@singingstones

Hello, lovely to hear about everyone's plans beginning to take shape. We'll be visiting a few uni towns / cities over the summer - DS has some ideas about where he wants to go based on course info but I think they might change when he has a look. I don't think he'll do any official open days or tours until the ones for offer holders (🤞🙏😬) and even then I'll be surprised if he goes to many. He's so laid back, it drives me mad because I do like to plan and chat about things. 😁 I've learned to just keep my mouth shut! 🤭
You’re not alone! DD is having a weekend away with a friend to ‘lurk’ outside of UCL For her, a ‘lecture theatre is a lecture theatre’ and it’s more about what ‘downtime’ can be had after studying her chosen course. Hopefully a similar ‘lurk’ in Glasgow will be on the cards - subject to cheap train tickets After that, it will be ‘offer holder days’ if they materialise

@KingscoteStaff good luck to your DD, love the fact that it's early as so many of my friends children seem to be taking it late Aug/Sept so their summer is lost in preparation.

Happy to move to FE - I haven't ventured into there as DD most of the schools here have 6th forms so I still consider it school.

I will follow the crowd :-)

Orangecinnamon21 · 08/07/2021 08:01

Thanks all. We will try and remember when making new thread.
Went to bed with toothache and tension pain in jawline last night due to football! Grin

The surprise trip for Dd 17th to London for SIX is on Saturday and I have day off tomorrow...shaping up for a good weekend fingers crossed.

Whose will be first to 18 then ?

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/07/2021 09:54

I slept really well last night, I think I was so mentally exhausted after that game I was wiped out! Grin

DS is mid academic year so he won't be the first to turn 18.

ealingwestmum · 08/07/2021 09:58

I think Kings or *Sandy’s DDs are first to 18?

Zandathepanda · 08/07/2021 10:13

Seems funny talking about being 18 when some are still 16!

ChristopherTracy · 08/07/2021 10:19

October for us to turn 18. Gulp.

Seeline · 08/07/2021 11:01

Mine isn't 17 until the end of this month!!

Hattifatteners · 08/07/2021 11:16

Can I join you please? I have been lurking for a while, but would be lovely to join the chat. DS is off to uni in September after having a gap year and DD is currently in Y12. I am hovering between this forum and the Higher Education one.
We have seen Bristol and Nottingham with DD and still wanting to see Liverpool. Edinburgh is too far to visit Smile.
I think my DD might be one of the first to turn 18 as her birthday is the first of September.

SandyBayley · 08/07/2021 11:17

Mid September for DD to turn 18 😊

Orangecinnamon21 · 08/07/2021 11:20

Welcome @hattifatteners ...she most definitely will!

Lovely cities and Unis there.

ealingwestmum · 08/07/2021 11:23

Hello Hatti, welcome. Not sure we can get any sooner than your DD! Hope your son is looking forward to uni this sept.

Zebracat · 08/07/2021 11:24

My inherited teen was 18 last week. She moved here in year 10 but hadnt attended school regularly, and was changing boards and subjects, so resumed in Year 9. I know she doesn’t really count though.

ealingwestmum · 08/07/2021 11:24

X post!

Hattifatteners · 08/07/2021 11:35

Thank yo everyone Smile. @Orangecinnamon21 yes lovely places. DD wants to be a vet, so not too many to choose from. Especially as she has already ruled some out for various reasons.
@ealingwestmum yes, DS is definitely looking forward to uni and so ready to move out! Grin

Fferny1 · 08/07/2021 12:26

My twins are still not 17 yet 😄.
Welcome @Hatti! Dd1 is now a 4th year vet, as she just got her exam results yesterday.

Hattifatteners · 08/07/2021 12:32

Thank you @Fferny. Great news for your DD! Where is she?

KingscoteStaff · 08/07/2021 13:03

2nd week of September here. There has already been a tiny tiny mention of a birthday party...

FoolsAssassin · 08/07/2021 13:21

Mid September for DS and luckily falls on a weekend so he will be home.

Fferny1 · 08/07/2021 13:47

Bristol @Hatti.
She will now be based in Somerset for the clinical years. It will be very different to living in Clifton/Redland .

icanbewhatiwant · 08/07/2021 13:57

Mid November for Ds2. I was glad for him to be one of the older ones especially when he started primary school, as he's so small for his age, he needed age 3 school trousers, they were huge, so if he was august born he would have looked even more silly 😝 Even when he started secondary the uniform was huge. Ds1 was May born and didn't like being one of the last to learn to drive. But with covid this time none of them could learn anyway. I think just 2 September born year 12's managed to pass their tests before 2nd lockdown.

FoolsAssassin · 08/07/2021 14:16

Conversation with a friend , half of their 6th form now isolating and teachers struggling to cope well with a few in class and loads at home. Teachers there saying results are down and that it’s the same all over the country, is that what anyone else hearing?

Think a few at DS’s college have had lower predictions than expected and I suspect DS a grade lower than he was hoping for though he hasn’t said so and hasn’t so far been receptive to the idea of dropping one.

Hattifatteners · 08/07/2021 14:25

DD really liked Bristol @Fferny1 when we visited couple of weeks ago. She likes the idea of mixing with other students for the first three years.

I have a question for anyone who did a degree where the contact hours are quite low (eg
