Orange Looks like you're by a sea harbour. Looks delicious!

EwwSprouts · 23/06/2021 20:00

97% is a fabulous achievement!

Oh for a cocktail by the sea or even just a Solero...

EversoDelighted · 23/06/2021 20:04

I was going to ask if you were at The Ship, I see I'm close Smile

Ooh yes we love the Ship as it is walkable distance for us...DH insists on going to the Royal Oak for some reason at the moment! Both lovely views GrinGin
EversoDelighted · 23/06/2021 21:58

Yes, both are lovely, lucky you being so close. I used to go to my school sailing club at the sailing school next to The Ship, the teachers turned a blind eye to what we were drinking in there afterwards. Happy days.....

MidLifeCrisis007 · 23/06/2021 22:05

I've spent many a boozy night on 'ayling over the years - and know lots of people who still live on the Island!

Orangecinnamon21 · 23/06/2021 22:31

We are very lucky, I couldn't live too far inland anymore!

Monkey2001 · 24/06/2021 01:07

@AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore the 97% makes me think of Mma Makutsi in No 1 Lady Detective Agency! Well done to him!

97% is absolutely amazing !

Lovemusic33 · 24/06/2021 07:36

Only just found this thread. Dd is year 12 and did her end of year exams last week. Dd is pretty chilled out about everything and I’m a stress head 🤣

She’s taking A level Match, computing and English lit.

Her predicted grades are AAB, she has her results for computing and maths, computing was A* but maths a C, pretty sure she will get a A for English. Do these grades go towards uni applications? She says they don’t?

She’s needs AAB, or AAA for her first choices of uni, though so far we haven’t really looked at unis other than one visit to Oxford before lockdown. I feel we should be doing more regarding looking at uni’s. Dd has Aspergers and some mobility issues so will need some support at uni.

Just watching the news now about wether exams will go ahead next year.

Seeline · 24/06/2021 07:41

Welcome! I think most schools tend to use these end of Y12 exams to help inform their predicted grades for UCAS, but there is no set process. Your DDs school have already set predicted grades, so they possibly use a different system? Or do they have predicted grades and UCAS grades separately - my DDs school does that!

Piggywaspushed · 24/06/2021 08:26

Most schools do have actual predictions and separate ( tend to be more generous) UCAS predictions and then also internal exam results. English will have NEA, too, so be careful about over interpreting exam results there.

That's an interesting subject combo! What does she want to study?

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 24/06/2021 08:52

@AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore wow, that's amazing, well done to your DS!

Good luck today @Shimy.

@Orangecinnamon21 very jealous of your location and the cocktail! Grin

Apparently DS get's History grade back today, I'm keeping everything crossed!

Zandathepanda · 24/06/2021 10:24

Apologies to change the subject to covid. When your schools have a positive and lots of isolations, do they let others know? We used to have an email stating ‘there’s been a case in …. ‘ but now nothing. It’s led to lots of rumours about how many are/ who is isolating in Year 12 at the moment. It would be handy to be kept informed or, if they aren't going to tell us anymore, tell us they aren’t going to tell us! Especially now there’s no social distancing nor masks nor bubbles.

estherfrewen · 24/06/2021 10:37

No we are only told if directly affected

ealingwestmum · 24/06/2021 10:39

We still get emails Zanda. Then when it gets too much, the school shuts down like it has for this week for all - Y7 to Y13 (though Y13s gone now), switching to online to slow the spread, plus not disadvantaging those in SI disproportionately.

Heifer · 24/06/2021 10:58

It's been quite a while since I've posted - I've been reading but haven't felt like saying anything (perimenapause is doing strange things to me).

Well done to all your DS/DDs on their mocks and driving, it's so nice to hear how they are getting on.

Sorry to hear some of your DS/DD are struggling.

DD has mocks at the moment which seem to be ok. She did get stressed recently and decided to postpone her driving theory test so 1 less think to think about.

School has quite a few cases recently - we do still get emailed for every case or - Yr 10s all sent home earlier this week as 7 positive cases.

DD has moved into the 6th form block and was a massive disappointment apparerently. School have said they will be redecorating over the summer but it really took the shine of what should have been an exciting time.

No Uni visits (online or otherwise) done yet although DD is showing interest. The biggest problem is that all the ones she thinks she wants to go to have the same grade requests (AAB) so she needs to look further down the list too.

Had a massive blow up re EPQ. She was really getting into it and had decided to do a project on genetic engineering of agricultural plants so that they survive better in more extreme environments. But then found out that she would have to do a presentation - she was ready to quit there an then. I think she has pushed it to the back of her mind for now but I've now idea if she will go through with it or not. I've said we can get her help if she needs but it's something we will have to deal with when she is ready I think. She used to be fine but in the last year or so just says no not doing it. (missed an opportunity in London last year).

Good luck with the rest of the mocks and driving to all

Horace123 · 24/06/2021 11:27

Unfortunately I can't find minutes or transcript or anything but yesterday Gavin Williamson was in a select education committee meeting and said that it is highly likely that next year's A level and GCSE will be tweaked in the way that was originally planned for this year (before this year's were cancelled) - so possibly pushed back to allow more teaching time and also content reduced. This will be in addition to the announcement about non-examined content. I was supposed to be watching the planning reform committee meeting so it was difficult to follow both (!) but I'll keep an eye out for the official announcement. But nothing yet on gov.uk or in the minutes available through Parliament. Although obviously nothing official yet.

Fiddlersgreen · 24/06/2021 11:33

Really want to know if they’re are going to be pushed back as I will have yr11 and yr13 and we had planned to go on a big holiday early July! Obviously not sure we will even be able to but it’s just something we’ve talked about for a couple of years now.

@Zandathepanda our school have only ever informed us if it affected us directly so when the school had to close mid Dec (due to too many teachers self isolating) and then this week when my yr10 has to self isolate

MirandaWest · 24/06/2021 11:35

We will also have year 11 and year 13 and are also planning a big holiday late June/early July that we’ve been talking about for a couple of years!

Seeline · 24/06/2021 11:39

Does anyone know when exams would've been this year if they had been held?

blahblahblah321 · 24/06/2021 11:50

DS's college don't inform you.

We've got loads of cases there at the moment - roughly a quarter of his year group (2k students in yr 12!) Either have it, or are close contact SI at the moment Shock!! I keep checking my emails expecting to get one to say DS has to come home

EversoDelighted · 24/06/2021 12:31

Y11 and 13 next year here too, we hadn't got as far as planning holidays yet but this obviously interests me too. Hope they give plenty of warning of what they are planning.

Horace123 · 24/06/2021 13:09

I really must do some work ... had a quick look at historic consultations and when the 2021 GCSEs and A levels were going to be postponed the delay was going to be 3 weeks so nearly all were going to be done between 7 June and 2 July. I also have Y11 and 13 next year.

Just a disclaimer - education is a devolved matter and I'm only monitoring English announcements. Not sure how many of this board are in Wales and Scotland?

crazycrofter · 24/06/2021 13:14

I also have a year 11 and 13 next year. A delay to the exams would definitely help ds, who's got behind during lockdown 3. But it's a shame for them to miss out on their long summer.
