GCSE Results & resits English & Maths

HI all muma's

I'm looking for some advice & a little bit of market research.
If you have a teenager who will have 'done' their GCSE's in English & Maths this year but they do not pass with a 4, would you want them to take the November 2021 re-sit to pass it sooner than again in June 2022?
If no, why?
If yes, would you find an intensive (6 week) GCSE English or Maths re-sit tutoring course worth the investment?
If yes, what would you expect/want from it for your teenager?

Thanks,

Sarah xx

I think a 6 week intensive course would be hard to do whilst simultaneously starting at 6th form / college. How would you envisage it working?

My plan with DD, who had a nearly non-existent y11 is to do 4 weeks on maths between 12th August and 9th Sept when she starts college. (Assuming the assessments she did won't be good enough for school to give her a pass).

I think in general I'd rather 1-1 tailored to my child than a course.

Sixth forms round here all run twilight classes for those taking maths/English resits. So I'm not sure this would offer anything that wasn't already available. (appreciate other areas may differ). I agree with Teen that if I thought my child needed extra support I'd prefer to pay for 1:1 tutoring.

I teach gcse re-sits

Is your child a high grade 3 student? If so we run a November re-sit alongside vocational.cpurses at the college I teach at

If they're a lower 3 then I'd say re-sit the year

My DD was on track for a 5, or a 6 on a good day. Just she had to sit her maths assessments on approx no maths for a year and then 4 hours revision. (long story).

Thanks all for your feedback.

I'd envision it being a six week (or six key modules course) that students could work through in their own time with the added bonus of a small group live session every other two weeks.

I ask because, as a tutor, I am always fully booked with students from June for the September, however I always get enquiries to support students taking the November re-sit. I want to help as many people as possible and so wanted to get some feedback, as it could be a solution to the problem.

Thanks

To be honest, I'd have thought that if a student were able to work through stuff themselves then they'd have passed in the first place?

I think it could be a helpful addition to college sessions, but you'd need to rebadge it. It isn't how I would view an 'intensive re-sit course' more a 'structured re-sit revision package plus 3 small group live sessions'.

I don't see how it would work for English though. People can self mark maths, but not English.

Thank you - yes that's a very good thing to consider re the rebadging of it. I would also consider something around marking so that students had feedback.

Thank you x
