I can't help with FE colleges, but I suggest you might want to specify what he is interested in studying.

You should also note that most courses will start in September - is there any possibility to bring your move forward at all?

he'd like to go to uni for Business
it seems there are many local colleges in Southampton

Hampshire colleges specialise. You need to say what subjects he wants and what sort of course - A levels or BTEC for example. Can you look at their websites to work out what they offer? And the application process given that you're very late to apply I suspect.

Ok, if you are in S'oton you have at least
Richard Taunton
Barton Peveril
Eastleigh College
City College
and then if you are willing to travel a bit Brockenhurst College, and Peter Symonds. There may be more I'm unaware of to the East of S'oton.

Assuming you are thinking A levels (you weren't clear) then Barton Peveril and Richard Taunton will be your best bet, (though I don't know anything much about City College).

Personally I'd plump for Barton just on reputation, but as PP said you really could do with being in place for September, you may find them unwilling to take as late as October and/or classes may be full.

I'd strongly suggest you contact them next week after half term to see how the land lies re late applications, and possibly starting late too. iirc their normal deadline is Feb for applications.

Ambitious Southampton kids tend to go to Barton Peveril (Eastleigh) or Peter Symonds (Winchester - but lots travel a long way to get there).

Brockenhurst is also good and is on a direct train line from Southampton central.

Tauntons has become more popular in recent years but is less well regarded academically.

Just to add DS went to Brockenhurst and Dd went to Barton and both enjoyed their College time and did well.

I work in a school that sends lots of students to Barton and Peter Symonds.

For more vocational courses Eastleigh is popular.
If you,re living over the East side of Southampton there’s also Itchen College

Both Barton Peveril and Peter Symonds have offer holder open days coming up. They're currently planned to be in person so you might get to visit them to help you decide, if you contact them soon.
