11 plus online resources

Can anyone share experiences of using Bond 11+, Chuckra, BOFA and IXL learning for preparation for the 11plus exam?

My DD needs support in maths. With BOFA, the questions are not separated into maths areas, but I think that might be a drawback as my DD wouldn’t be able to focus on areas that need extra help/practice?

Thanks

Many moons ago both my kids signed up to bond online- it £50 and it was brilliant!! Access to papers and topics.

It was definitely worth it rather than buying books. They preferred online questions. Both are now in a selective school.

I would recommend it- plus it was cheaper than buying the books!

Good luck

You can look into atom learning. Well structured. Have english, maths, VR and NVR. Child can go through each by topic or you can set custom mix and match tests.

It really depends which school(s) you are targeting. The question style and content varies. Does the school, do English and maths , or verbal and non verbal reasoning for example? If you’re not sure check the 11 plus exams forum for lots of useful info. If your DD just needs support in maths Bond is a good place to start can assess her level and take it from there.

Thanks for the tips.
It is the CEM exam so covers English, maths, VR and NVR.
But really it is the maths she struggles with. We have plenty of books but there doesn’t seem to be many questions to practise.

Does Bond have the maths questions according to topic?

I can’t remember @MissPilly, it’s been a few years. I recommend just getting to a newsagent and having a browse. CGP books are good also, I would imagine they are arranged by topic as I remember the chemistry books were (KS3 though ).

whataboutbob · 04/06/2021 19:24

I’m afraid I don’t know about online resources.

Blubell46 · 04/06/2021 19:54

@MissPilly

Sorry it has been a few years. I think you should either call or email Bond-online...sorry I honestly can't remember but I know it caters for both GL abs CEM abs we found it very useful.

Hopefully they will be able to answer your questions before you commit .

MissPilly · 04/06/2021 22:03

Thanks @Blubell46 Yes I will contact Bond to clarify.

Thank you @whataboutbob yes I have many books, in fact too many, which might be adding to my confusion! I think the ideal 11 plus maths book would give a clear explanation of how to work out the questions, examples and then lots of practice questions. But I have found cgp for example don’t give many questions in their workbooks so I thought one of these 11 plus websites would be the beat way to get more practice!

Did you try “Target your Maths” book? Lots of practice questions by topic. Questions arranged in 3 difficulty levels. Really good book. Only thing is you have to buy answer booklet separately.

Milomonster · 08/06/2021 13:05

Get 11+ maths practice papers for ISEB. I think they cover CEM too. It’s been really helpful for us
.

Zodlebud · 08/06/2021 14:23

The CGP 10 minute test books have loads of practice questions and the answers are properly explained which my DD found very useful. At £6.95 they are significantly cheaper than all the online offerings too...

I have two children (1 boy 1 girl) close in age and I want to get them organsied and ready for their exams. My son will sit this year and my daughter next. I am considering signing them up for an online learning platform we can manage at home. What are the pros and cons of the platforms you've used? Are you getting good results from them? There is a lot of info out there.
😊

Hello all,

In my experience the 11Plus papers can be in different format so CGP or Bond books are great but its best to have a private tutor who can explain the topics no matter the books. Try Tutors4Berkshire they are brilliant!! On-line lessons are easy and they have some fantastic tutors for all age groups and subjects.

mumohhey · 14/06/2021 23:51

My DD also struggled in maths. She did 11+ last year. I'd combine Bofa and workbooks that are for CEM with maybe Corbett Maths or Numerise. Both of them have video explanations and work by maths topic so you can focus on her weaknesses within maths.

Hi, If anyone's interested, I work with parents to help them prepare their children for the 11+ exams by providing impartial information, guidance, building confidence of parent&child and lots more...
And no- I'm not a tutor, so not trying to get your child in a tuition centre😊

I also hold regular parent webinars/trainings for how to prepare your child to pass the 11+ exams too.

Thank you so much for your insightful answers! Very helpful. Do you have any thoughts on online platforms like Atom? Is it worth looking into?

We did the 5-day trial so you could try that to see if it's a good fit. We didn't continue because DD was getting 135-142 in all the mocks in half the time available, 3 months ago, and from experience we know that's not a good reflection of the exams she will be sitting. The tutorials might be more worthwhile though.
chrismess · 28/06/2021 12:34

@BumbledBee thank you for your response! This does help in making a decision.

Trialsat11 · 28/06/2021 13:10

For CEM , i would recommend Chuckra online(www.11plus.co.uk) and exampaper plus Pretest plus ( harder and to be used more near exams )

We used both of these last year and found that speed and vocab is quite essential for CEM . Maths is not that hard but speed is vital .

CGP and First past the post also have good material for CEM

Rzwilson · 27/07/2021 10:02

@chrismess my youngest is using Atom Learning. It confirmed what we knew; her maths is significantly weaker than other areas. For us (both working parents) being able to set custom practice tests in specific areas and set her up in front of live lessons when she's confused is fantastic. We tried the trial before we paid, maybe give it a go? We have also used CGP books, but she's more excited by the prospect of screen time!!
