I watched with interest the information and support on this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/secondary/4177427-PART-3-SW-London-Girls-Indies-11-Results-Decisions-Panic-Over and wanted to start the same thread for South West London parents with daughters who will be applying for secondaries (independents and grammar) for places in year 7 in Sept 2022.

Where are you applying, how are the virtual open days going..... and to tutor or not to tutor?

Oh dear. It's not easy for her to get SPGS interview. Maybe she has too high an expectation on herself. Who knows! Good luck to the rest of the interviews and hope for the best!

Westlondonmom22 · 18/01/2022 13:48

@HighRopes I am sure she has done well. It is hard to tell with interviews. Did she have to do n Mj ash’s problems too?

Westlondonmom22 · 18/01/2022 13:49

Maths

puzzledmom · 18/01/2022 13:59

@HighRopes from what I've heard result will be based on performance in all aspects. It's not like they've all passed written stage and interview is the deciding factor.

Also, there's no right/wrong answer in the interview

So do reassure your DD!

HighRopes · 18/01/2022 15:24

I think she heard the Maths question, froze (nerves, she’s usually quite in to maths problems) and then didn’t unfreeze for the whole thing. It’s tricky with her sister being there - made it much more stressful for her, despite everything we said.

She found Surbiton interview much easier, and quite enjoyed the WHS assessment, so I think those went better.

Westlondonmom22 · 18/01/2022 15:28

@HighRopes I think she probably did much better than she thinks and they will take the exam into consideration as well.

RM46 · 18/01/2022 15:42

Anyone heard from LU yet? DD has some classmates who have (and have been invited for interview) but we’re still waiting to hear 😬

Westlondonmom22 · 18/01/2022 16:32

@RM46 we haven’t heard yet from LU. It was a yes from LEH but yesterday which was a long wait! How did your DD find G&L and SPGS interviews?

puzzledmom · 18/01/2022 16:54

Received the LU email to interview today

Harley100 · 18/01/2022 16:56

We are also waiting for LU @RM64
Do you know if anyone had received a ‘no’ from them? Am wondering if they send the ‘no’s’ later…

travelturtle · 18/01/2022 17:05

We’ve literally just received an interview email from LU. Good luck everyone 🤞

RM46 · 18/01/2022 17:26

Just got the LU email about an hour ago @Harley100 and @Westlondonmom22 and thankfully it’s an invite to interview, delighted!
My DD found SPGS interview ok I think but it did sound quite intense! Just so hard to second guess how they’ve done, I’m trying not to think about it now, she’s done her best and that’s all she can do!
We didn’t do G&L.

Westlondonmom22 · 18/01/2022 18:04

We just got the email for interview too! Congratulations to everyone who got an interview, it seems it was very competitive this year!

RM46 · 18/01/2022 18:28

That’s brilliant news @Westlondonmom22 yes crikey the numbers for LU are crazy, so competitive!

HighRopes · 18/01/2022 18:43

Congratulations on all the LU interviews!

puzzledmom · 19/01/2022 13:49

I was just reading SPGS email about interview. Are there 2 people interviewing at same time or 2 separate interviews?

onedayoranother · 19/01/2022 13:49

My daughter's year group (lower sixth) are doing the escorting for interviews today at Francis Holland Sloane Sq. 90 kids in her year and she says they are busy busy! Good luck to any girls going there today!

onedayoranother · 19/01/2022 13:50

Sorry 70 kids. But must be a lot of applicants/interviewees to keep them all rushing around.

RM46 · 19/01/2022 14:49

@puzzledmom it’s one interview, 2 interviewers - so the child is in the interview with both teachers at the same time and they each ask questions etc. good luck to your DD

puzzledmom · 19/01/2022 15:08

Thanks @RM46

easysky · 19/01/2022 15:31

Hi all! Also completely new here…thanks for all the advice, particularly @Flossietea for the very helpful points on interview, much appreciated.
Anyone else waiting for JAGS? DD had an invite for an art scholarship interview next week. Does anyone know if this means she has a place guaranteed or not? Many thanks and good luck to all. Such a stressful and time consuming process!

Justlikingit · 19/01/2022 15:52

@easysky I think you will only be called for a performance interview at this stage if you have done well enough to be considered for place.
So it’s promising for your DD. There is also the possibility of being on the waiting list.

All the best to everyone who has interviews

ShaminaC · 19/01/2022 16:39

@onedayoranother - my daughter was at the interview and said the Lower Sixth girls were so lovely!

onedayoranother · 19/01/2022 16:43

That's nice to hear! She said 600 girls came through! I think they try to interview all candidates. No idea how many they offer to.

easysky · 19/01/2022 17:14

Thanks @Justlikingit, that’s my thinking too. Promising but not guaranteed.
