My son is a bit stuck. He should be reading more, he knows that, even his English teacher told him so he is now looking for something good.
He is stuck on the 5th Harry Potter but I think he has lost interest. I understand he is bored (he has read the first four books and he has watched the movies) and I can see he literally reads no more than 10 pages per week. I told him it's ok to stop reading a book if the passion is gone. So now I want to suggest him something good.
In the recent 2 or 3 years he has read:

  • Alex Ryder,
  • HP,
  • he loved The London Eye Mystery and the Guggenheim Mystery,
  • he has read 2 or 3 Ultimate Football Heroes (he loves football) but i found them too simple for a y8.

I would like to suggest him something which will enrich him and does not want to put down. He might start the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. I read it years ago and loved it.
Do you have any suggestions? what do your kids in year 8 read?

Maybe try the Hunger Games or Maze Runner?

Thanks, @autumnkate, but the more he grows the more i see he is not into science fiction. Alex Ryder was a bit of a stretch for him.
He likes stories set in normal daily life or murder mysteries

Armistice Runner maybe? Or the Young Sherlock Holmes series?

My son loved a series of true stories about survival called True Grit. I think it was by Bear Grylls randomly.

My Y8 son (a bit of a reluctant reader!) is enjoying the Alex Wheatle Crongton Knights trilogy. He's also not keen on science fiction or fantasy books (he actually really prefers to read non-fiction) and I think these books appeal as they are very real life, so he can relate to them.

Oh Crongton Kights could be a good idea. Thanks

The Alex Ryder series by Anthony Horowitz and the Cherub series by Robert Muchamore was a favourite for my DC at that age. They are both teen spy series. My DS also liked Auslander by Paul Dowswell based in WW2.

Warrior Cats- Erin Hunter. My son can't get enough of these books. Hooked.
