Books for Y8 son

My son is a bit stuck. He should be read more, he knows but he is looking for something good.
He is stuck on the 5th Harry Potter but i think he has lost interest. He is bored (he has read the first four books and he has watched the movies) and I can see he literally reads not more than 10 pages per week. I told him it's ok to stop reading a book if the passion is gone. So now i want to suggest him something good.
In the recent 2 or 3 years he has read Alex Ryder, HP, he loved The London Eye Mystery and the Guggenheim Mystery, he has read 2 or 3 Ultimate Football Heroes (he loves football) but i found too simple for a y8.
I would like to suggest him something which will enrich him and does not want to put down. he might start the Curious Incident od the Dog in the Nighttime. I read it years ago and loved it.
Do you have any suggestions? what do your kids in year 8 read?

Artemis Fowl series?
Any of Rick Riordan's series?
Cherub series, although check you're happy with some of bit more mature content.
DD and I read Curious Incident together when she was a bit younger and she absolutely loved it.

The Young Bond books

Patrick Ness books (A Monster Calls is maybe too young though). The Loop? The Call/The Invasion have all gone down well.

Perhaps Simon James Green for teenage awkwardness and comedy. William Sutcliffe too.

Has he read The Hunger Games and Maze Runner series?

The gone series is good for this age but if your DS is a bit sensitive be cautious as they are quite "graphic".

DS also enjoyed the cherub series. I started to read them as well when he came to me to ask what a "hooker" is so again it depends on your child.

Percy Jackson?

Skulduggery Pleasant series - I my DS is addicted.
Philip Pullman's Northern Lights trilogy
Mortal Engines series by Philip Reeve
Railhead series by Philip Reeve
Artemis Fowl series
Michelle Paver's Wolf Brother series

Robert Muchamore cherub series is a lot of fun (albeit not exactly challenging!). The prequel series ‘Henderson boys’ is aimed at slightly older children.

My DS has also recently read some Stephen King books, and various dystopian novels (handmaid’s tale, Fahrenheit 451, 1984). But arguably this material is a bit inappropriate for a 13yo. Perils of unsupervised kindle use…

Tom Palmer's Foul Play series is a good series about football a bit more challenging than the ultimate football heroes.

Can't recommend any Robert muchamore books enough

My Y8 boy recently read Curious Incident and quite liked it although he didn’t rave about it. He also will not engage with many books and loses interest easily. Some books he has seemed to enjoy are:
Enders Game
Hunger Games
Ready Player One
Percy Jackson
When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit (bit different to the others!)
Some books I am trying to get him to read because I think he’d like them - Dirk Gentlys Holistic Detective Agency, Neverwhere, The Changeover
