Anyone else starting to think about this?
Do you think there will be chances to look at schools this Autumn?

In a way we thought of this 6months ago as we researched schools when looking for houses to buy. Pretty much guaranteed a place at the catchment school (unless it fills completely with catchment siblings)... Live in catchment, feeder school.

But there's also a lottery school nearby. Appears perfect for our elder DD. But would be a longer journey.

Hopefully will be able to visit the schools to see them at some point. It's hard to get a full picture from websites and online tours.

No idea what on about. Dd starts in September and they had 2 evenings for a chat and talk. We went and spent 2 hours walking around the school.

Christmasfairy2020 · 15/05/2021 19:43

You will be fine to look the events will be on this year

I’m hoping so @Aroundtheworldin80moves
Been researching for months, there are potentially 3 schools near us that will be options (we’re semi rural, and live on the border of two LA’s... most schools come down to distance so a bit nerve wracking and changes year to year as to which school we’d get into).
One school I spoke to said they’re hoping for an open evening in July and another in sept. Another school I spoke to was much less helpful and just a straight up “no” from reception when I asked about any plans for open days!

Hi, we are relocating to Chalk Farm. What are some good 6th form schools we could at look for our daughter?

Kisforkaylied · 18/05/2021 09:59

I'm also hoping to be able to go and look round some schools. However, there has been so much housebuilding round here that I think realistically DD will be going to the catchment school, no matter what we put down. It is a good school though and I know a lot of parents who are really happy with it, ,so i'm fine with it.

Makeadifferencehoney · 18/05/2021 11:34

Kisforkaylied are you in the Camden area too?

Makeadifferencehoney · 18/05/2021 11:35

Whats a catchment school? Sry I'm new to the system.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 18/05/2021 11:51

Catchment can mean two things.
In some areas, it's the colloquial term for the area that can you can usually get a place from. Changes each year.
In others, it's a defined priority area for a school.

If you look at your schools admission criteria, you can find out what system is used locally.

I am hoping there will be a chance to look round schools in person in the autumn, I currently have a year 5 and his brother chose a further away school not our closest one, I want to give him the choice of whether he stays with his friends and goes to the local one or goes where my eldest does, but it will be hard if he can’t look round them.

Neither school did anything in person last autumn, and information on the website isn’t the same as seeing them directly.

Eccle80 · 18/05/2021 12:04

@Christmasfairy2020 you were lucky and that was unusual, I don’t know any schools near us that let prospective pupils look round last autumn, at best there were video tours on the website

@Makeadifferencehoney you might want to start your own thread on this with Camden or Chalk Farm in the title (there are a number of posters on these forums who live in the wider area). This thread is aimed I think at parents who will be applying to Y7 this October for Sept 22 entry.

However I can tell you your local school would be Haverstock, which is reputed to be on the up. You should also look at the very popular La Swap consortium of schools (La Sainte Union, William Ellis, Acland Burghley and Parliament Hill), and Camden School for Girls has a much sought-after (mixed) 6th Form which is very competitive.

You could also look further afield to Woodside College (in Barnet but on the Northern Line I think) or St Marylebone School which also has a mixed 6th Form. There are others I'm sure which may be why it's useful to start your own thread.

Noted. Thank you so much.
