Woodford Green

We currently live in Newham and we're looking to move to Woodford Green (or nearby) because the state secondary schools are meant to be a lot better for the children. Is there any parts of Woodford green we should avoid and is the area safe?

Compared to Newham? You'll be fine.

The area is very safe. Woodford Bridge has traditionally higher crime rates that Woodford Green itself but is still safe and housing is more affordable. Which school/schools are you looking at?

Thank you for the feedback.
Both my children are still in primary sch, but we're planning ahead, so that they have good secondary schs to get into later on.

We were told trinity is pretty good and that if we can, we should try to get my DD into the Woodford county grammar sch for girls.

We were also thinking of wells primary sch for now, but this is all dependant on if these schs have spaces.

Trinity is a good school but obviously you must be catholic and have very regular church attendance. Wells is a lovely school but tiny catchment (although that may not matter if you’re looking to transfer in). Churchfields is a great primary and I’ve heard good things about Oakdale in South Woodford too. I don’t know much about the grammars as it seems not many of the students come from Woodford. I hope that’s useful and good luck with your search/move!

Thank you, this is v.helpful.
I'm going to look into the schs you mentioned that I haven't heard of.
Cheers

Or you could stay in Newham and get your kids into Brampton Manor where they had 55 Oxbridge offers . More than Eton, and cheaper.

Brampton manor is extremely exclusive and if you don't live in their already small catchment area, then you don't stand a chance of getting in.

We live on the other side of Newham and we don't intend to move to the area of Newham that Brampton is in because the crime rates around that there are quite high.

Sorry, don’t know why all those posts appeared, my broadband went a bit wonky this afternoon.

A lot of the schools in Newham are very good too and a bit more innovative. Schools in Woodford get good results but mainly because the children going in tend to have high starting points academically. Value added is probably better in Newham to be honest. Woodford is safer than Newham and feels a lot more suburban. It’s a nice area, green, pleasant etc but arguably also a bit boring. Nothing very cool or trendy, depends what you’re looking for I guess. A lot of the primary schools are good. You have to live within about 0.7 miles of Wells to get in. You have to attend church weekly to get into Trinity. Woodbridge is a good state secondary.

No worries Smile
