Parents of y11s in Wales - what do their assessments look like?

Because we've just put together a list of all ds's assessments by date and in the six weeks after Easter he has nearly 60.

Each subject gave him details separately so it doesn't look too bad but then when you put them all on the calendar... most days there are two, occasionally one and very occasionally three.

Some subjects are being chunked into smaller very focused single-question assessments and might only be 15-20 minutes. Others are 40 minutes. But I think to the kids the pressure feels the same regardless - it's an assessment.

I really feel for the school and I've felt throughout that they've been working so hard to get the best possible results from the kids but this has floored me and I just don't see how ds will cope with it.

Not sure whether to collectively get a grip and just do it, or to contact the school with concerns.

I would be interested to hear how other schools are approaching this.

fwiw England is v similar - it's been constant assessments since they went back 3 weeks ago and there are more to come - in addition to 3 weeks of mini exams......

There ios a thread about it somewhere - consensus was that this is more stressful than the actual GCSEs would have been?

But def contact the school with your concerns...

Thanks - I thought I'd seen another thread a while back but couldn't find it.

I've taken some deep breaths and feel a bit better but honestly it all looks so stressful! DS has some issues around processing and memory so we do a lot of supporting at home and to be honest on looking at the list I was horrified on my own behalf as well as his!

Just popping back to bump this if it's of interest (and I can't find the other thread at all!)

So things might change again!

They refused to give out assesment timetables before Easter holidays at DC school.

But gernal outline from on-line parent event is it's going to be most subjects 4 weeks of end of topic tests - and then two weeks of longer exam style tests. It's going to be intense though a few subjects did say they mostly had enough evidence but there still following the school year plan as well.

They had many tests when in school last year and two weeks of mocks in Novemeber/December before lockdown but many teachers have made it clear they need to do well in these tests of their grades will suffer.

We'll see how we go TBH - trying to get her to do some revision over the holiday and see how she copes next term and what actually ends up happening.

Was it the 'Exams Cancelled 2' thread under Secondary Education. Sorry I can't seem to do a link but you could see act Secondary Education!
You will see me on there moaning about an English school where my DS has over 24 assessments of 30 minutes coming up, still has coursework to finish in three subjects and they are using mock resulted from their first and only ever mocks in November to drag down their final results! Up to 50% in some subjects.
I am losing sleep over it already Confused.
I feel the kids have been let down by the government, the education department and actually our school too because other schools in the area are not using the one off mock results.
