Hello

Does anyone have any experience of the 16+ entrance procedure for these schools?

In particular, is it absolutely essential to tutor? (For exam technique primarily rather than academic support.) How far ahead would you start?

They're obviously all very academic schools. My daughter is currently at a good school and would of course still have her place there if she were unsuccessful but I wonder whether it makes sense also to apply somewhere slightly less academic for a fall-back if she doesn't want to stay where she is. Possibly Rugby, Marlborough? I realise these are a very mixed bag of schools- all this is a way off so at the moment I'm just thinking about options. I don't know yet whether she or I will have strong feelings about day or boarding, girls or mixed.

She is academically very gifted, hard working and an all rounder in terms of subjects, considering maths, economics, philosophy, maybe politics or history. She doesn't have anything dazzling extra-curricular- she plays netball for the school and enjoys photography and politics- and obviously some applicants will have a lot more than this.

Would welcome any thoughts.

There's lots of good info about Westminster 16+ in this thestudentroom thread:

I've heard the Westminster 16+ tests are a bit hard to revise for as they tend to test for aptitude more than knowledge and will make you use familiar techniques or concepts and apply them to unfamiliar situations, but I would digress to parents of current students for that info.

My DD's also hoping to apply for 2022 entry. What year is your DD applying for?
