Hi all,

We are moving area so likely my daughter will have to take her A level in a new private school.

I have no clue how is the admissions process?
When to apply ?

Most School website says she will have to take exams for the subjects she chooses.?

How hard are these exams ?

Is there anyway I can prepare her?

Anyone who could share their experience , would be helpful.
Thanks

Your post isn't clear. Do you mean move for September so she will be going into sixth form?. You need to apply to the college or sixth form school directly. See their websites

If you mean move now into yr11-i strongly advise you to wait! Let her get her grades sorted at her current school. Moving now without GCSE exams would be a disaster!

They will probably require good gcse passes in same or related subject to take A level. What this threshold is may vary by school. What subjects does she hope to take? If she is y11 now though a lot sixth forms - state and private- will have made their offers but it can be fluid come summer.

I think some private schools set entry exams for 16+ entry, rather than just going off GCSEs, but by no means all. Those often happen relatively early in year 11. Some will just go off an interview and reports from her current school, and will probably give an offer based on her GCSE results. If there's an exam, there may be information about what will be tested in the prospectus.

If she's already in year 11 now, you may be late for the admissions process at many schools; I presume the less competitive ones would consider a late application. You might look at the state options too - there some very good state sixth forms in some areas.
