What size uniform did your dd wear in y7?

Dd is turning 12 in October and currently wears size 34 polo shirts for her primary school uniform but the shirts look quite big on her.

I suppose blouses and blazers are more fitted so wondered what size blazer / blouse / skirt your dd wears or wore in y7?

Honestly, no answers given here are going to help you. We have no idea how big your child is and no idea on the sizing of your current primary school uniform, or that of your secondary school. The range of sizes in a year 7 class is massive, when did was in yr 7 (all girls school). The tallest was 5'10, the shortest under 5'.

I think my dds started y7 in 22/24 skirts and 26 blazers. But your sizing might be completely different, some also shrink more than others.

Do you have a local Facebook page where you can ask people with kids at that particular school who know the uniform? Or ask someone with a child already there and if they could lend you a blouse/skirt/blazer for a day, just to try for size.
If neither of these options are available to you, ask the school, they will try and help where they can.

I sell preloved uniform for secondary PTA.
People shopping in March for September yr7 starters always astounds me! We even get October shoppers for following yr7.

Anyway, the sizing for our items is all over the place. DD wore age 9-10 polos for summer term in yr7 & she wasn't particularly small at all.

check locally if there are freebie pages - I've picked up some logo-d donations for our PTA that way.

You really want to hold items up to your child or measure the kid carefully.

Buy blazers big anyway. More space to shove things in the pockets. And also so as to provide growing room.

My DD prefers the less fitted shirts and they do look quite big.

As PP says, this really depends on your child. My DD was big compared to other Year 7s, but she didn't grow at all in secondary school and is still wearing the same size uniform (shirts Age 13, skirt 24/20, would have to check what the blazer is) in Year 10. But still pleased I bought the blazer with growing room :) Rolling up the waistband of your skirt perpetuates as a "thing" so don't buy too long a skirt (disclaimer - though your secondary school may be stricter on this, than ours is).

Sizes do vary though, like any other clothes. I'm not sure that comments on here will help.

DS was furious at me for him having to wear an over-size blazer for 2-3 yrs. One reason I took over 2nd hand uniform sales was to have any chance at getting blazers cheap & right size for DS2 (different school so no spares to inherit from big brother).

I agree we’re going to be clueless. DD (now Year 8) changed shape in Year 7 as well from standard age 11 clothes to developing a chest and curves. I’m glad we bought bigger!

Do you have a school uniform stockist who’s website will provide you with specific sizes? If you plan to buy new you could always order items in 2 sizes and send one back. As others have said, don’t buy till June/July in case of a growth spurt. I’m not sure if our school uniform supplier is particularly crap but items can take 2-3 weeks to arrive.

Land0r · 13/03/2021 13:17

2-3 weeks is fast compared to ours! Everyone has been waiting since last August for larger sized PE kit to come into our shop (everything is logo'd and a very specific colour and design, nothing generic that you can pick up anywhere else and this is the sole supplier) and it just arrived last week, 7 months later! (This isn't relevant for my yr7 admittedly, it's kit for my yr10.)

What a bizarre thread Confused

My DD is in Year 6. She's always been the tallest in her year until this year when puberty growth spurts have resulted in loads of girls overtaking her. Her best friend was half a head shorter than her when they finished up for Christmas. Seeing them walk home together yesterday, her friend is the same height now. I fully expect DD to have a spurt before starting secondary so will be holding off buying get uniform for a bit yet. In her huge year of 4 classes (I work at the school so know them all) there's the full range from 'wouldn't look out of place in Year 3' to 'taller than me (5' 7"), very developed and could probably get in the pub' and that's still with the best part of 6 months to go before starting secondary.

Children aren't standard sizes at certain ages and when they're 10/11 year olds girls hitting puberty, the range is absolutely huge!

My Dd is year 7 and just turned 13. She wears the smallest size in blazer and pe kit. I buy her blouses and trousers from Next age 10 .

JaninaDuszejko · 13/03/2021 13:41

My Y8 is tiny, probably the smallest in her year (still needed a car booster seat in Y6). She had a 26" blazer (Trutex), age 9-10 trousers (M&S so pretty big) and shirts. Her PE kit is 'XXS'. Our school had a uniform try on session but they didn't actually have the smallest sizes, by the summers your might be able to do the same.

Chewbecca · 13/03/2021 13:43

Just buy the ones that fit her, or the next size up if you want growing room. What size other children wear makes no difference to your DD’s size?

SJaneS49 · 13/03/2021 15:21

@Land0r - and I thought ours was bad! We have the same problem - only one (crap) supplier and all logo’d and a specific design.

If I had my time again, I’ve decided I’d set myself up as a school uniform supplier. Parents are completely stuck with using you, you can charge an absolute fortune for any old item (DDs kilts are £50 each) and no need to bother with any niceties like Customer Service (or even picking up the phone!) as your Customers can’t go anywhere else.

Land0r · 13/03/2021 18:26

SJaneS49To be fair, our shop supplies several sports clubs and a huge number of schools and is usually very good. (Our grammar school just has specific kit that can't be bought anywhere else.) The ridiculous delays were apparently due to a combination of Brexit and Covid. Not sure where the PE kit is manufactured, but it isn't in the UK.

I think your business idea sounds a great one!

YellowDaffidols · 13/03/2021 18:36

Boy here, but aged 11 slim fit shirts and PE tops. Second to smallest blazer they sold. Age 8 extra long trousers, adjustable waist pulled tight. 24" pe shorts, which slip down, but they dont do smaller.

Basically, same as the rest of his wardrobe - age appropriate tops, bottoms being a nightmare.
