I'm taking it next week
Anything I can help with?

My dd has always struggled big time with maths and will be lucky to pass a gcse tbh.She is working really hard on the module subjects (i mean really hard about 3 hours a night at the mo ).
She has epilepsy and although she is well and quite bright really it is the maths part of her brain which was affected so that is why she struggles.
Absolutely anything will help=any tips at all because every single mark is so precious.
She wants to be a school teacher and obviuosly needs maths.
I am helping her revise JUST module 3-is this ok ?
Thanks for reply btw

Yeah it's best just revising module 3 at the minute focusing mainly on the bits she has most problems with.
I find the bbc bitesize website really good for helping with revision

Its fine to revise just module 3 as long as she is doing the modular version. BBC Bitesize is good but as far as I know is not arranged modularly, so you would need to know which topics are covered.
Has your dc's school been using past papers for practice? If not, and the exam board is AQA you will be able to find past papers on their website and answers too. Try www.aqa.org.uk. The exam code will probably be either 4302 or 4307 depending on whether it includes coursework or not. If its not AQA then I don't know what's available but I would imagine other boards produce similar material.
Past question practice will help your dc to feel much more comfortable and relaxed about it. Good luck.

Thanks marblearch-i dont think aqa will be her because shes Wales but will def have a look.
I know its naughty but shes having today off and we have a whole book of practice questions and answers esp listed in the modules so she is going to spend the whole day doing these . Its 2 hours the exam and i think 2 hours is a very long time at 14 to concentrate. I know my dd can manage short bursts of 20 mins well and then needs to get up and make a drink . Shes in set 1 and 2 for every subject except maths and in set 6 of 7 for this-doesn`t make sense really.Do you think with hard work she could ever manage to get a C ?

Glad to be of help.

As far as whether or not set 6 out of 7 would mean she would be unlikely to get a C would depend on the type of school, its results and how it decides its sets. Now that maths is a two-tier exam grade C is accessible to pupils entered for foundation. Previously it wasn't.

We give our boys a target grade so they have an idea of what to expect if they work hard. All our rewards are based on their progress towards their individual target so boys in lower sets don't have to compare themselves with the more mathematically able. Does your daughter have a target grade? If not then perhaps you could talk to her teacher about it. As a rough guide, a pupil who has achieved about 5.5 in the Key Stage 3 test in considered capable of getting a grade C but this is only rough and depends on many factors including determination, hard work and parental support.

Hope all goes well.

my dd is doing thi sone on Monday too. She has done the coursework part, and said it was horrid.
We have been battling with the school all week as they wanted her to resit the last module because she got a B grade!! I think I have won the battle now though, the head of maths has said she doesn't have to if she doesn't want to.
Good luck to your dd, I hope she gets on well.
