Would love some opinions on the senior school at SCHS from those with daughters currently there.
Academics, sport, drama, pastoral care, school lunches etc...
Thank you!

My DD is there and loves it. She only joined this year (although was at their prep school beforehand so know the school pretty well) but we have been very impressed. Her brother is at one of the boys super selectives but whilst DD is equally academic we wanted something gentler for her as she responds better to encouragement than pressure. So far the level of work they have been set seems to be roughly on a par with what DS was doing at the same point. DD is doing well and seems really interested in all her subjects.

On the non-academics it's been such an odd year that we haven't really experienced the full range. Sport seems to be strong and she was doing lots of early morning extra sport sessions for the term they were in school. She has one sport she does a lot outside of school but also signed up for a whole range of others so it seems pretty inclusive - all girls are given the chance to be in a team. There was quite a full fixtures calendar planned had it not been for covid.

The pastoral care has been outstanding throughout the lockdown with a real focus on the girls welfare and needs with everything going on. Online teaching has been great with a full timetable of live lessons.

Lunches are now great. I know parents of girls higher up the school had some complaints over the last couple of years but they've since moved the prep school chef over to the senior site and the girls are full of praise for the food now. Seems to be a really good range of food on offer and DD often comes home and surprises me with the things she has eaten and enjoyed.

Feel free to PM me any specific questions you have.

@Notmynom thank you so much for taking the time to respond. Really reassuring to read how happy your DD is.

Would love to hear from anyone else too.

Thank you

I’ve a friend who’s sent 3 DD there now and they all seem to love it.
Their DH was very very unwell for a couple of years and the pastoral care that was offered was genuinely exceptional I’ve never heard of a school being so supportive.

I can only echo what @Notmynom has said. Pretty much word for word, bar the prep bit as DD came from local primary. She is SO happy there and actually can’t wait to get back. Pastoral care is excellent and throughout this latest lockdown communication between school and us, and school and the girls has been fantastic.

Teachers are always available to the girls and DD has gone from being very unhappy at primary school to absolutely flourishing and bounced in and out every day with a massive smile on her face.

Sport is excellent. DD also plays out of school and despite being rubbish in the mornings, loved getting there early for her before school training.

She likes the lunches, and the menus are varied and nutritiously with something for everyone.

Absolutely the best decision made to send her to SCHS, we love it.
