My DD is on waitlist at FHSS. Any feedback on girls on waitlist being offered a place in the past?

Feedback around the genre of parents whose girls join FHSS - are most of them from professional backgrounds or wealthy families?

Oh, I feel so sorry. It’s so stressful for the girls and the parents. Don’t give up, please. It’s movement till the very last moment. If you really want to get in you will manage. There are always new girls who join each term. And we know girls who were on the waitlist, didn’t get in for Y7, but did in Y8. I keep my fingers crossed. All the best for you!

We are in the same position mumster007. We also received the disappointing email. No mention of anyone on the waiting list getting offered.

GoldTulip · 02/03/2021 19:00

We got the same email too and have no yet managed to go past the wait list.

Well done for all that have been offered and accepted their spot.

Schoolblazer.com that does FHSS uniform.
You can always buy your house t-shirt once you know what house your daughter is in.

* ORDER SCHOOL BLAZER ASAP*
They have reduced the price of blazer.
The blazers are slim fit and taylored. You can feed in the sizes for your child and it will give guidance on current fit and how well it will fit next year.
You can save around £25 on a small 28" Chest and nearly £40 on a 38" Chest.
Shipping is £4.99 or free if over £150.

They have also reduced the price of the Trousers although not sure how many of the girls wear them. My daughter doesn't mind the kilt. But my eldest always prefered trousers for school and she is still cross that her school doesn't offer a trouser option for girls.

I believe they do offer intro days and access to a second hand uniform sale. We missed out on it due to Covid restrictions so sorry I can't enlighten you on those.

There is a lot of PE kit required.
I have taken screen shots of all the uniform.
Some of it is optional and some even though optional can still only be purchased from them. - if you would like to DM me I don't mind sending you the screenshots of what we have got and what we havent bothered with..
Main uniform - we have not ordered the puffa jacket, the navy overcoat or any of the tights/socks (except the ones for PE)
You don't need netball dress unless in the team.
We didn't buy any of the fitness kit.
The base layer (skins) and the softshell jacket are used a lot with the navy blue top & Skort.
You could leave the white kit until after Christmas to give your wallet a break. Especially helpful in case of a growth spurt!
They will need sports socks a good pair of trainers - sports direct are perfectly adequate for these.

Sadly its bad news for us too. We are so disappointed.

Midlifephoenix · 06/03/2021 07:44

@Leverano1 thank you - he passed away some years ago but feel it every day!
FH was not our first choice initially but the more I hear about it the happier I am that my daughter will attend.
Good luck to those girls on the waiting list or not - I think this year has been particularly hard for applicants!

PumpkinPye · 28/03/2021 23:21

Out of interest, did anyone on the FHSS waiting list eventually receive an offer for this Sept intake?

PumpkinPye · 28/03/2021 23:30

Apologies ignore my previous question, I somehow missed page 2 on this thread!

Hi all. Could anyone comment on whether there are significant differences between SS and RP please? And @Midlifephoenix - has uour daughter settled in?

I visited RP recently with a view to placing my dd in 6th form and was quietly impressed.

maofteens · 17/10/2021 09:52

@gulliblestravels hello!
I can't comment on the difference, we chose SS due to the commute (turns out to be a full hour, despite google saying 45 min). I had heard previously that RP might be ever so slightly more academic, but I don't believe this has been demonstrated by results.
My daughter had a tough adjustment. I don't think this has anything to do with this particular school, just the big move and while she wanted to go when we were applying, the reality and leaving her friends hit harder than either of us expected. The usual 'what should I wear' (sixth form), 'who do I sit with at lunch' and so on, more than the actual classes. The pandemic meant a lot more girls stayed on so the new girls are a much smaller proportion this year
However, in the last couple weeks she has come home to report 'today was a good day' and 'we had a lot of fun in psychology'. Plus they had a half day and she went out to lunch with a friend (this is a big step for her). I confirm there are few cliques and everyone is friendly. However my daughter says this does make it hard to identify her tribe.
Academically expectations are higher than I imagined. Her history teacher definitely expects them to be aiming for top marks (and said if you didn't get an 8 or 9 at GCSE this is not for you). On top, and I'm sure the same at RP, they are expected to volunteer and do an extra enhancement class each week plus of course the EPQ.
At SS they have their own dedicated building, and everything is new and modern if not the most sensibly designed (the common room where many study has a huge open area down to the dining hall making the sound deafening around lunch).
Overall a very good school, high academic expectations, a lot of opportunities to get involved if so inclined, and does champion women achieving, though like many all girls schools, perhaps forgetting not all of them can or want to be captains of industry.

gulliblestravels · 18/10/2021 01:13

@maofteens

Thank you for replying, very helpful.

My dd started at boarding but has not settled so we thinking of moving her to FHRP (lower sixth). Of course she’ll have 6 weeks of catching up and the exam boards are different, so its a lot, but the academic side is not my concern (she achieved 11 grade 9s).... its the friendships. (Its not possible for her to return to her previous school and we moved to London recently so she has no established social circle outside school). Worried. ☹️

maofteens · 18/10/2021 13:06

They were able to move subjects until about now - I know two of her history classmates have moved to English, one just a week ago, and someone has recently joined Art. They are doing mid terms after the break though, but your daughter sounds capable of making the switch and catching up. Being outgoing definitely helps in any new situation.
My stepson went to Charterhouse at 13, his decision, and it took a good few weeks if not months to settle in. Then he excelled and at sixth form met his now wife! But I don't believe in making kids 'stick it out' if they are truly miserable and there's an alternative.

gulliblestravels · 18/10/2021 21:25

Thanks, I agree about not making them stick it out. Although I kinda feel like thats what we are doing while she varies between the ‘shall I stay or shall I go’. Feel a Clash vibe coming on 🤣

Yesha26 · 30/11/2021 20:30

Hii,

We visited FHSS this Autumn and were extremely impressed, especially with the HM. My DD is currently in year 4, has started prep for secondary school entries. What advise could you offer please in terms of prep for FFHS? Process May have changed for next year however any advise would be helpful at this point 😊, Thank you!

pinkgaia · 29/12/2023 19:29

Hello everyone,
My daughter will have the 11+ interview soon at francis holland sloane Square.
They say there will be a "creative task" before the actual interview.
Do you know what the task is about and what the questions are during the interview?
Anyone that did it last year and can share recent experience?
Many thanks 😊

maya1983 · 09/01/2024 20:02

Does anyone know roughly how many interviewed this year at FHRP. I was told that intake is about 96 girls?
