Anyone sat GCSE exam last autumn?

(I've already posted on this topic about my sons story and how he 'resat' a GCSE last autumn and is getting his result on Thursday)

I know some subjects received results in January. I was wondering how people got on? Was there any big differences between the grades given by the teacher and the one from the actual exam? Is there anyone else out there waiting for results on Thursday? How have they come up with the grade boundaries ? I don't really understand it that well but I'm really hoping everything has been taken into account re lack of time in school lessons.

I don't know, but my daughter sat a GCSE in autumn and so she'll get her result on Thursday too. I hope she isn't disappointed. How did your son think the exam went?

mummyinbeds · 09/02/2021 23:36

My DS sat four GCSE's in November. Totally his decision to do them and with zero support from school. He went up a grade in English Language and was three marks off the next grade. Waiting for the others on Thursday.

onionsndsage · 10/02/2021 09:05

Good luck to you both 🙏

I've just found out his result. The school use an app to record his information like attendance and exams on that, we also have access to it and I looked and it was there.

He needed a 6 but got a 7 !!!!

He burst into tears! It's such a relief, all that stress and worry, it does make you wonder how accurate all his other exam results are but nevertheless he got more than he needed and can continue his studies.

My DD is waiting for a result tomorrow. She resat one she wasn’t happy with the mark (somewhat sat under protest so I hope she does better). Wow to the grade 7! That was worth it then!

SusannaSpider · 10/02/2021 14:47

DD sat her core iGCSEs in Oct/Nov (not resits), she got her predicted grades which were high grades so she's very relieved.

clary · 10/02/2021 14:49

That's great news OP, I posted on your other thread. Well done to your ds, he must be delighted 😀

SusannaSpider · 10/02/2021 14:49

There were no allowances for time missed/Corona as they were sitting the exams early, so theoretically could have delayed them.

Technically this is a breach of the regulations from the school. Whilst in this instance it doesn't really matter, imagine if you'd found the result to be less than you hoped. Anxiety and all sorts, I imagine.

Results are released to schools on the 10th but embargoed until 8am on the 11th.

I would let the school know about this flaw in their app, because if this happened in the summer it could affect the university clearing process and all sorts, in which case the school would be in hot water.

Candleabra · 10/02/2021 14:59

Great news! Well done to your DS.

onionsndsage · 10/02/2021 20:05

Good luck to those receiving results tomorrow.

Once the school knew that we knew the exam section of the app was removed and I received an email saying DS will get an email with his final grade tomorrow (they can't change it can they?) they apologised for grades being released prematurely. No harm has been done so I don't mind that but I was asking for confirmation but haven't been given that.

Phew, mine got an 8 in his subject-he was given a 6. He didn't put a lot of effort in as he was trying to keep up with his 4 A levels. I am so glad he took it as he was very disappointed in his result. Hope everyone else did well.

onionsndsage · 11/02/2021 11:49

Hopeful201 that is fantastic news. It makes you wonder how many other grades were given to low.

Anyone else receiving results today - share them.

Grade 8 here. Beyond delighted.

ClarasZoo · 11/02/2021 13:56

DD up from a 6 to an 8 too. Very pleased but slight regret she didn’t do a few more resits! Well done everyone. It seems it was worth doing for everyone!

mummyinbeds · 11/02/2021 14:06

3 7's and an 8 here. Two of those went up two grades. All the hard work alongside A levels was worth it. Interestingly, the grades he now has are those he was predicted up until March.

onionsndsage · 11/02/2021 15:03

Brilliant news, anyone questioning why our kids were given such low grades in the summer?

OP posts:
ClarasZoo · 11/02/2021 15:32

I am questioning it myself but not with the school which DD has now left anyway. Nothing can really come of it.

GU24Mum · 11/02/2021 15:33

Seeing this I'm slightly kicking myself that I didn't encourage mine to resist a couple. Well done to your DCs though on their great results!

Hopeful201 · 11/02/2021 16:05

Our school basically used the ranking system to give their results, my DS really didn't revise for mocks-so he was penalised. He had a couple of duff results but wasn't doing them at A level, so didn't see the purpose of doing them again. I was more thrilled than him as I thought he was really let down on the results day.

Moonface123 · 11/02/2021 16:19

Lovely to hear some good news, they all deserve to do well, good luck to all the others waiting on exams.

Moonface123 · 11/02/2021 16:19

Waiting on results.
