Do boys change a lot between year 9 and 11?

Just wondering if boys change a lot (in terms of becoming more responsible/studying more etc) between year 9 and 11 as I'm concerned about a few subjects results?

Thank you

Not necessarily I'm afraid - it depends on the boy (and I have 2!).

From my experience I felt that boys were disadvantaged in the whole GCSE experience as they seem much more emotionally and organizationally immature! I'm afraid I got involved with both of mine, as and when necessary, just to make sure things didn't slip. So, things like making sure notes were organised, homework was being done etc and we helped one of them plan revision timetables etc, but he has dyslexia, so that was a contributing factor.

Not in my experience - which I realise is anecdotal rather than data.

I have a son in year 10. This year he has really stepped up and is much more responsible especially with regards to school work.

I have a boy in y9 and all I can say is I hope so but I'm dubious atm.

I don't know about academically but my nephew who is currently in Y11 is a different person to what he was in y9. I think y9 is a really hard hear for boys and a lot of them are quite moody, mean and not very approachable.
What hasn't changed is his work ethic I'm afraid. He still thinks GCSEs are useless and refuses to do much about it.
I think girls tend to go through this mean phase in KS3 and by the time it's Y10 and 11 they knuckle down.
All anecdotal though, I'm sure there's plenty of examples that would prove the opposite true.

It took until after (not great) y11 mocks for mine to knuckle down (thank goodness he was not CAGs reliant) and he did well in gcses. Sixth form was a lot easier as he realised it was more sensible to work all the way through and keep good notes, do well in end of topic tests and mocks (thankfully because his A levels were cags year).

Physically yes LOL but I'm still waiting for my Year 11 lad to realise he needs to take his school work seriously.
