SW London independent schools. Average child?

Has anyone got a perfectly average girl into a SW London independent? Our daughter is wonderful, chatty but perfectly average. She goes to a state school and has one tutoring session a week. Is it worth pursuing an independent place or should we just park it. Not interested in prepping her within an inch of her life, though perfectly happy to help her familiarise herself with the exam format.

Not really thinking about university daisypond. I think she may well do something more vocational. Would love for her to have sporting/drama/music opportunities though. Our experience of state secondary/primary has been that there hasn't been much of that. But then I suppose there is always opportunity to do that outside of school.

I think St Dunstans is probably too much of a shlep.

Would Sutton be worth a look? Depends on trains I think?

@AveEldon makes a very good point about bulge years. The numbers applying may drop off a little due to lower birth rate - we certainly saw that with our primary catchment.

I’m hearing lots of positive things about Thomas’s new secondary and that will be less subscribed initially.

GDST schools in Sutton and Croydon
Royal Russell near Croydon

Travel may not be ideal though.

Sydenham also worth considering

If the journey to Sutton is ok, and you want a non-independent option, Glenthorne have an entry stream based on performing arts. DC who get in on that basis have extra performing arts opportunities worked into their timetable. It is co-ed though.

Thanks all. Co Ed would actually be preferable blowonitthen.

I am hearing great things about ACS Cobham

Have you thought about Radnor House in Twickenham? Not sure if the journey would be tolerable

SquirmOfEels · 04/02/2021 14:10

It's a fairly straightforward journey to get to St John's Leatherhead by train (no worse than journey to Woldingham) and worth a look as you want co-ed

CloudPop · 04/02/2021 14:24

Have you looked at Emmanuel ?

Vegiereggie · 04/02/2021 14:37

I get the impression Emmanuel would be well out of our league cloudpop.

Thank you for all the other suggestions.
