Is anyone familiar with this course? DD is choosing options and what she would really like to do is a GCSE in Graphics Tech, but the school don't offer that, although they offer 4 different Tech GCSE's. They do offer this Certificate in Creative iMedia however. DD is an academic child, and I am suspicious of this as it seems on the face of it like an IT qualification for those without sufficient maths skills to manage the GCSE in Computer Science. Nothing wrong with that of course, but she really does - and I do wonder about the make-up of the class...maybe I should just get over myself. She is very interested in Graphic Design so this seems like a good fit - but should she 'give up' a GCSE slot?

Is your dd is taking GCSE Art - this would be the most important subject for Graphic Design? I would find out from the Art department if it would be possible to integrate some computer based skills within that GCSE.

Yes she will definitely be taking Art and no there is limited opportunities to use computer skills. School say it is really all about manual skills.

We are in the same boat. I'm wondering if we're at the same school. DD really wants to do graphics but school doesn't offer it. Offers everything from textiles and engineering to land studies but no graphics. We asked about creative I media but it's more around animations etc rather than actually making the products through graphic design.
I think we are going to do DT Product design as it's the next best thing and they get to use CAD machines etc.
