CAREERS PSYCHOMETRIC TESTING

Hello,

Received an email from our school today, for Year 11s they are offering as an optional service by Morrisby Assessment.

Do you know anything about this assessment, is it worth it? It costs £72. I don't mind paying for it if it will help my daughter make more informed choices for her future. I am just curious if any of your DC has done this, and is it good?
TIA

Absolutely not.

There are plenty of psychometric tests available online for free.

Thank you, that's what I thought.

My DD did one last year. It included a 30min on line interview with an advisor . My DD found it useful and it affirmed her strengths and weaknesses and interests and came up with some career options she didn’t think about. Got a chance to think about careers and what it entails for the first time. The interview in addition touched on how extracurricular interest bring transferable skills and how to incorporate then into a CV or application form. Still have access to the account and you can make changes to subject preferences and other interest to see how they make a difference to choices. We didn’t have to pay any extra, so not sure now I would have felt at the time if I was told the price upfront.

DDs' school do this in year 10. They do various tests to assess strength if various different fields - eg reasoning ability, verbal, numerical, mechanical, manual speed ank skill etc (tbh there was little surprise there) - and then there's a questionnaire part about what sort of working environment you like, eg would you rather be in a tem or on your own etc.

Then they pull all this together and give you quite a detailed personalised breakdown and - what my DDs found most useful - about 12 suggested career directions with typical A level and degree requirements. It also suggested A-level and degree courses, so I would say it is quite a useful resource if your kids have no idea what they want to do (like mine).

DD2 has done a number of different career questionnaires and says the Morrisby is one of the most useful ones because it is based on your skills and not just a questionnaire. Eg surveys often ask things like what your hobbies are and base it on that - DD2 likes drawing so but doesn't want to do it for a living so lots of suggestions for designer/illustrator etc are not that helpful.

@AuntieUrsula yes mine is the same. She has no idea what she wants to do, she only knows she wants something to do with science so she is picking biology, chemistry and psychology so her options are open. She has an interview with her career consultant at school (via zoom of course) and I will look into more in the next few days. Many thanks for your responses, very helpful
