Heart breaking

DD got her Mock results today and they're not great but it was expected after the terrible year they've had so far. Listening to the Online lesson it seems that the majority of the girls got low results as well. The poor teacher was desperately trying to reassure them that it's ok and that they've got plenty of time to improve etc... the poor teacher was sobbing... dear god that poor woman was trying to take responsibility for something totally out of her hands.. it was heart breaking to hear. They've had to abandon the lesson and have a little chat to each other so they can all reassure each other that they're not alone and that this is just the mocks .. I'm sat crying just listening to it all

Oh that's so sad to hear. At least you're not alone in this. Poor teacher. Look after yourselves this weekend.

It's just utterly shit isn't it.

pinkyboots1 · 15/01/2021 15:26

@Waverless lots of Mum love needed this weekend and a quick message to her teacher ... the girls were so supportive to her

The teacher sounds like she needs some support...
As a pupil, I might have panicked if my teacher cried over my mocks!
It just shows how stressful things are at the moment though. I have a year 11, so uncertainty hangs over our house as well.

So sad for that poor teacher. I once didn't get moved up on a pay scale because I had no pick a class I was getting on well with and then aim for them to get95% of their target grades. Then a kid from the class below got moved up as he said such awful things to his male teacher then decided to move him into my class. For him it was sport to ruin every single lesson and a few kids went along with it so the lessons became a joke. I ended up teaching those who wanted to at lunchtime before the lesson. Anyway the class did not hit 95% target grade, I didn't move up the pay scale and I was t able to apply for a high enough mortgage as I had hoped. No dream house. The teacher could well have something similarly ridiculous tied up with their results. All of it is so unfair.

I'm sure that there will be so many teachers feeling that they've let down their students but they're doing their very best especially as some are teaching from home while trying to home school their own children x

I feel sorry for the teacher, and it's not wrong to tell a class you feel for them and want to do your best.
However, it's very unprofessional to cry in front of them.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 16/01/2021 12:53

I cried in front of my Year 11 class on their last day at school in 2020. Not full-on sobbing but I did shed a few tears. I felt bloody terrible for them and I'm a human being. Perhaps it was unprofessional but I couldn't help it.

I really feel for your DD op. It's a horrible time for them.

pinkyboots1 · 16/01/2021 14:34

It might come across as unprofessional but it also came across as very human and I think it made the girls realise that their teacher is struggling too and that they really are all in it together

Poor teacher and poor students. That sounds very human too.

I'm a teacher and whilst teaching on Thursday one of my Year 13 students got a fit of the giggles for an unknown reason -we have cameras on in my school and everything recorded-and she laughed for a good 5 minutes, and couldn't stop -it made me laugh -I couldn't stop -tears rolling down my face and at least 4 of the others got a fit of the giggles after me. We agreed afterwards it had been the best bit of online teaching so far. Unprofessional maybe- we had cameras on and we record all lessons -but it still makes me smile. She doesn't know what caused her to laugh. Likewise -teachers cry we aren't robots.

I cry sometimes, when my students get upset, especially on results day, and I experience joy with them .I laugh with them and I feel their stress and worries- I'm a human.

I disagree.
OnTheBenchOfDoom · 16/01/2021 18:36

I think it is lovely that the teacher cares so much about the students. I don't think it is unprofessional to cry, it has been the most ridiculous year for education.

OP there is time for your DD to bring that grade up, tell her not to lose heart over it. She can do it.
