Self harming

What happens when school is informed that a pupil is self harming? What procedures would a school be expected to have in this case?

I have no idea of official protocol, but:

I'd expect pastoral care to be involved.
I'd expect parents to be informed but possibly only if pupil agrees (depending on age)
I'd expect referral for counselling.
If 'bad' I'd expect a CAMHS referral, but I wouldn't expect CAMHS to do anything as they are ridiculously underfunded at the best of times.

And, if child is currently not in school due to lockdown I'd expect that any/all of these might get missed.

Thanks.

The dc (a young adult) is already having counselling, arranged through the school, and the counsellor has informed school. Unfortunately the external counselling is time-limited, and the school's internal counsellor has had to suspend sessions as they have children learning from home and therefore no privacy. Worrying that the support structure is crumbling just at the time of greatest need.

I was thinking more about internal procedures. Will the student now be on some sort of safeguarding or vulnerable register? Will this information go to UCAS or any other outside agencies? Will the school's interactions with the student change?

The counsellor informed the parents first, with the student's agreement.
