How close to A level results day to return from holiday abroad?

I know this is a long shot even thinking about a holiday this summer but we can dream.

The worry would be having to stay in the country to self isolate or quarantine etc and missing picking up results from school but also having to sort out any other uni stuff from abroad whilst possibly feeling awful.

Not to mention where on earth could we stay if we contracted covid whilst we were out there. Is anyone contemplating a holiday abroad in Europe in August this year?

A level results day for my DD (2019) was a terrible day, for various reasons her grades were below predicted and we basically spent the whole day on the phone to various unis.

It ended well with a place at a uni where she will do well but my point is I wouldn't have wanted to be doing that from anywhere but in the school with support from teachers (and DD's pals as well fwiw, plenty were in a similar boat).

So I would make sure you are back well before results day. Why not go in July when exams (!) are over?

Thanks clary I have a younger child so have to wait until school finishes for them at the end of July but Dh has to work around colleagues for holidays and July/August is in high demand.

My fear is being stuck out there for an extra 10 - 14 days after we were due to come back due to covid. I was making sure I wasn't being irrational about the worry.

Go as soon as you can in July. Go for 10 days? Go in the uk?

Are you even sure they will have to go in to collect results? Our school always emails them pre-covid too. I very much suspect it will be email or online results next August as the norm.

The definitely collected them even this year, everyone had timed slots.

Basically there is the possibility that all of my child's friends are going to book a holiday together abroad which will put their return within a few days of their A level results. Only a few of them have applied to uni so it would only be an issue for a few of them should they need to sort out going through clearing etc. We are worried they may possibly get stranded in a foreign country which we may not be able to get flights to should the shit hit the fan and our child, technically an adult at just 18, will be out there, possibly alone dealing with covid in a foreign country.

We are trying to work out if we are being unreasonable as parents to say this is fucking stupid or not. Given that they are booking it using their Christmas money including paying in full for flights, now with no guarantee that they will even get to fly.

I'm in Scotland, results come by emails, text and post. Do they not do that in England?

Often dc need to talk to schools if results are to be challenged. Why can’t they go in July? Say it’s July or no to the holiday!

I'm thinking holidays should be OK in August - but don't book anything until you have 100% certainty as to exam dates. They may change them again.
