GCSE Maths specs, (probably a question for teachers/tutors)

DD is almost certainly moving from Higher to Foundation tier, which in her school also involves a change of board.

A few questions:

  • are the specifications for all the English boards the same?
(ie Having now got the CGP foundation guide can I cross check against the old higher guide and anything that is badged grade 6 or above I will know she doesn't need to know)
  • can anyone recommend a good sheet with the equations that have to be learned for Foundation?
(notwithstanding that they may decide to give out equations sheets this year)
  • what do we need to watch for that I might not realise? (I know we will have to make sure she can do the grade 1&2 stuff.)

Hopeful bump for all the people who have now broken up and have nothing better to do than be on MN. Grin

Maths isn't my subject, but there are comparisons available on the exam board websites.
The link below is an example

Oh thank you. I see 100% of the content and content weighting is defined by the DfE, so it’s exactly the same across all boards so I guess that answers my first question.

As ever, having a good look through past papers will help. While the content is the same, the style of the papers differs between exam boards. For example AQA has some multi-choice style questions while Edexcel doesn't. If DD has previously been working towards higher, the foundation content should have been covered so it will be a matter of consolidation.

Here are the need to know formulae (the ones in blue - green are higher only): qualifications.pearson.com/content/dam/pdf/GCSE/mathematics/2015/misc/U219_GCSE_Maths_Poster.pdf

Which board is she moving to? The papers have the same stuff but different styles.

Thimbleberries · 19/12/2020 08:59

I"m surprised it's exactly the same ,as I know iGCSE had some differences but I guess that's the iGCSE part of it, ,and maybe regular GCSE is all the same. iGCSE Edexcel used to do a few things differently, like more circle theorems, no completing the square, bit of differentiation etc.

Thank you for the link noble
She's moving to OCR.

We hadn't started looking at past papers in earnest anyway so looking at those is definitely a priority once I've got her maths brain going again.
