uk2020 · 12/12/2020 10:57

May I know which senior schools (almost) automatically offer places to pupils at their junior schools?

Where in London are you?

uk2020 · 12/12/2020 11:34

I am flexible. Can be anywhere in London. Obviously targeting the better schools. Thx!

Most/all of the GDST schools I think, Latymer Prep, Ibstock.
But they will still probably be told if it it's not in their 'best interests' to go to the Senior school.

For West London
Notting Hill and Ealing, Putney High, Francis Holland Sloane Square, Queens Gate, Queens College, St Catherine's in Twickenham

City of London girls?

Ibstock Place, Harrodian, Latymer Prep, Kew Green Prep or Ravenscourt Park (goes on to Kew House ), St Benedict's, st James Girls, Radnor House (from Y5) for Co Ed

Some very good all through schools in SE London too but know less

Thanks all

IN truth I think few school guarantee it as such. If students are obviously not meeting the grade, or there are discipline issues etc, I think parents are 'encouraged' to look elsewhere in Y4/5 for schools that might be a better fit for the student. There are also usually grades that must be achieved at GSCE to allow students to continue into 6th form.

All of the schools listed above manage out some pupils at the transition between junior and senior schools. The fact is they are not really that accurate when they do the 4+ assessment so end up with some pupils who they believe would probably struggle in the senior school.

Of course what this actually says about the ‘value-add’ offered by any of these schools is a separate issue.

Londonmummy66 · 14/12/2020 22:34

GDST schools do not guarantee that a Junior will get a place in the senior school. You are usually told in Yr 5 if there is an issue.

Londonmummy66 · 14/12/2020 22:36

Meant to say - not an issue for my DD but 6 girls in her year (10%) were told no guarantee 2 pulled their socks up 1 made waiting list but not high enough to get a place and 3 failed the entrance exam.

My daughters were at the juniors of North London Collegiate and Haberdashers and they and most of their years went from juniors to seniors, even one of mine at Habs where we were told she might not pass at 11, then applied to 6 other schools and still got into Habs where she stayed.

However if someone got in who are really struggling I hope any school would let the parents know.

orangeblosssom · 16/12/2020 13:11

Habs and NLCS

Wishingitwasover · 16/12/2020 21:29

Surbiton High School, I am pretty sure, go straight through without taking any exam at 11+

Onceanexpat1 · 16/12/2020 22:13

St James in Kensington Olympia is an automatic transition. As far as I am aware only one pupil has not been offered a place at the senior school in the last five years and that was because they really could not stay in mainstream education.
