DD has offer from the above (and deligted) - we have been living abroad for a while and had to do search, exams and interviews completely online. We love the school but have never set foot in it and DD is feeling a little intimidated by the sporty reputation. Never done hockey, cricket or any of the ‘British’ sports and while excited and willing to try something out of her comfort zone, she is also wondering about the range of commitment the school will demand of her - What does the bare minimum look like vs highest level of involvement? How awkward will it be for her to join teams when she’s never played these sports before? Will that make it harder for her to fit in etc?

She’s bright so academics should be fine, likes the arts/drama/planning things/volunteering etc so should have plenty of clubs etc to get involved in.

Any parents out there willing to offer a perspective on this ? I would really appreciate it as we feel like we’re going into this with no local insight. Thank you so much!

Whilst attending an open day a couple of years ago, we were shown around by a young man in year 10. As we observed the hockey practice we asked if he liked it? He said he had never played it before KGS......but now played at a national level!
DS ended up elsewhere, but we loved the school too.
I'm sure your DD will be fine, there is a very wide range of abilities/keenness on the sporting fields of Indies I have seen.

We have looked round it and absolutely loved it. It was by far my favourite school, but sadly too academic for DS. It seems that everyone has to do sport( which is standard for all schools,) but I did not get the impression that it was any more than any other school. I would be running to the bank to pay my deposit - congrats to your DD

That all sounds very doable, thank you so much Ripple and After8.

I have a DD at KGS. It's a fantastic school and we are very happy with it.

Yes, the school do extremely well at sport and DD is very sporty, but not all kids are top sports people. There are a real mix and she has friends from across the spectrum. The school do encourage all children to get involved in sport but you don't have to be super good. It's a very encouraging school, whether it's sport, art, music, or anything else.

Feel free to PM me with any specific questions.

I also have a DD there and agree it's a fantastic school. If she likes Drama she will have a ball, dd is a Drama scholar now and has been involved in so many fabulous productions.

Don't worry about the sport. DD had never played Hockey, she liked it well enough but then tried rowing and really took to that for a few years. Your dd will find something, not everyone is sporty by any means!

There are a billion clubs to choose from, if she likes joining in she'll have a great time.
