It changes every year. What exam board is your DC studying? People with access to exam board secure areas will be able to tell you past grade boundaries but expect this year to be very different anyway so it won't mean much. You also would need to be very specific about which history specification they are studying, there are at least 50 depending on the option modules.

Depends on the board and it will vary from year to year but here is the AQA grade boundaries list for 2019: link

There are many many variants for history as it goes but most seem to be about 90+ out of 168 so about 55% upwards for a grade 7.

Gosh that's confusing! He's doing AQA but no idea which combination. Thanks for the information though.

He's just getting mock GCSEs results back but just as a percentage so no Idea what grades he'll get.

The school should convert the percentage to a grade. But the bands change every year as the test is not the same every year, and this year presumably the band will be lower than usual.

This year I think grade boundaries in history may be a bit higher as the removal of a topic will make a big difference. With the announcement that students could have advance notice of what topics come up, they could go up quite a bit depending on how specific the information is. The challenging thing about the new GCSE is not that questions are so much harder than the old spec but that there is less optionality on the papers and a lot more content to memorise. On the old spec the grade boundary for a C/4 hovered around the 60-65% range on most papers. A lot of people are predicting lower boundaries this year but I’m being very cautious as if students have advance notice of what to revise marks will be much higher.

There's not a huge variation in boundaries tho, so you'll get an idea. You could look at 2018 boundaries too to compare.
