Kent 11+ - does a higher score help if you're OOC?

DD passed with a very good score. She wants to go to Wilmington for Girls and we are very slightly out of the county. I've been reading that a high score means you've got a greater chance of getting in if you're OOC though? Is that true - or does that only apply to the likes of Dartford Grammar?

Whether you are out of county makes no direct difference. It is the distance from school that matters.

Wilmington reserve some places for those achieving the highest score in maths and living within 5 miles from the school based on straight line distance. Unless your daughter qualifies for this category she is unlikely to get a place unless you live within 3 miles of the school as Wilmington use distance as the tie breaker.

She stands a better chance at Dartford Grammar which uses the test score as the tie breaker and only looks at distance when two candidates have the same score.

Ah. Maths was her weakest score - 126. Good but probably not one of the highest. We do live within 3 miles though.

I think you might be in with a chance, looks like the Maths score they are looking for is 125 for Governor places.

I just found that out too from their website! Brilliant!

Sorry!everyone . I got the wrong operation.but I really want to know is my DD got the chance to enter the Dartford school for girls.

prh47bridge · 28/11/2020 09:41

I understand the cut-off score this year was 372 for girls in category 4 (i.e. those living within the priority admissions area) and 393 for girls in category 5. The cut-off score has been rising steadily. If you live within the priority admissions area I would be surprised if your daughter didn't get a place, although there are no guarantees. If you are not in the priority area there is still a chance, but it is much less certain.

Thank you so much. I got the difficulty choice.my DD also passed the Newstead Wood school.the score is 250.I need to think about how to choice.Halloween ConfusedIt’s very difficult @prh47bridge

Wenyang · 28/11/2020 10:39

I don’t know which school is betterHmm @prh47bridge

prh47bridge · 28/11/2020 11:07

No good asking me that question! You need to figure out which school you think would be better for your daughter and make that one your first choice with the other as your second choice.

Wenyang · 28/11/2020 12:49

thank you so much Flowers

Chocwocdoodah · 28/11/2020 15:33

Only thing is, school applications had to be in by 31st October (although there is a small window to make changes if your 11+ result impact your choices). Have you done your application and did you include Dartford Grammar?

An amazing score.

If I were you I would put dgg first and then newsread. But I am not you. Good luck Smile

MarchingFrogs · 29/11/2020 02:40

If you haven't submitted an ontime application already, then being able to make changes to your CAF now to take exam results into account is totally irrelevant. Any first time CAF submission now is a late application and won't be considered in the first round of allocations. Unless you live in Medway, which according to its website appears to have been granted a variation to.the national deadline of 31st October enshrined in the Admissions Code?

PettsWoodParadise · 29/11/2020 12:50

DD is in Y11 at Newstead and has really enjoyed her time there. The journey from Welling though wouldn’t be that straightforward. I know of a Girl at Dartford and she loves it too, she gets far more homework than DD though.

What preference does your DD have and can you amend your CAF? I heard Bexley might be allowing changes upto first week in December. Wouldn’t Townley be more convenient from Welling?
