Hi all, I am in the process of filling out forms for secondary school art scholarships and am a little unsure about what to write for the following:

  1. Please detail any specific achievements:
Does this mean awards? What if my child hasn't had any?
  1. Please detail any other area of expertise which the College should be aware of when considering this application for an Art Scholarship. St George's College.

Is this their favourite medium?

Please tell me I'm not the only one who's slightly confused, any help would be great! Thank you in advance.

Qustion 1, yes that would mean awards and prizes, and could also mean anything else at all special that your child has done. I'm sure that this question is left blank by a lot of applicants. Mainly I'd say, think about all the most significant things that your child has made achieved or done over the years, that have led you to letting them apply for an art scholarsihp, and make sure that you've had a chance to mention them all somewhere on the form.

Question 2. I'd use this for any non-art abilities, skills or achievements. So if they've started learning the piano, or recite poetry very well, or are really good at running but always come second, or whatever. This both gives a school a fuller picture of your child, allowing them to prioritise / recognise other things they are looking for in their students, and also, a good art candidate with skills in other areas might potentially be given an all-rounder award if the school does them, for a student who's just missed out on the art award.

Good luck to your DC!

My daughter has just had three interviews for art scholarships for sixth form, but they had the same questions on the application.
For the first she mentioned (as she had no awards or prizes) that her work had been chosen to be exhibited for the Remembrance Day service, that she had work chosen by the headmaster for his office, and had work permanently on display in the school entrance hall. Bigging up a few things rather than leave it blank.
For the second we took that to mean extracurricular creative activities. My daughter helps design the school magazine and does a lot of workshops exploring different media and craft techniques. It shows the child's enthusiasm for the arts beyond the classroom.
The third, well your child probably does have a favourite medium? Being able to articulate what and why is important.
