Grammar School Catchman-Gerrards Cross Area

I have just recently moved to Gerrards Cross and my daughter is in Year 6. I wanted to ask, if my daughter passes the Buckinghamshire transfer test, would the council guarantee a grammar school place for my daughter considering we are in catchman for 3 grammar schools. I can’t count Dr Challoner’s into our selection as I haven’t lived here long enough but have most children who have passed and living in Gerrards Cross been given a place in a grammar school in the past?

No info whatsoever, but thought I'd post anyway as I was brought up in GX.

If your DD is in y6, presumably you have already put in your application as the deadline is now past? What schools did you put on your form? Only Grammars or did you include local backup?

LaPoesieEstDansLaRue · 11/11/2020 12:39

I'm afraid I don't know the answer but I'd advise posting this query in the Bucks section of the 11 Plus Forum site.

Yes TeenPlus Twenties, I have already made the selection but we have until the 10th December to make changes.
I put 2 grammar if she passes and the local state school CCC but I was just wondering if most kids who pass live in GX, do they usually get a place in a grammar.

Yes of course! Why do you think DC from GX would be excluded?

Occasionally schools fill up from within catchment and some on the edge are excluded. Borlases Marlow). f you don’t meet the requirements for DrC G, then you should get one of your other choices. I would actually put John Hampden at High Wycombe, The Royal Grammar at High Wycombe and Burnham Grammar. Then have CCC. You are lucky to have choices and many parents would love to have schools as good as these.

Bucks web site will tell you how these schools allocated places last year. DRCG is not the only option and this is why you can apply to other grammars with less draconian entry requirements.

There is also an appeal mechanism but I’m sure GX children get grammar places. As long as you were resident on the required date. If not, you could be at the back of the queue. But I’m sure you know that.

All the Bucks grammars are state schools by the way.

Have you looked at last years allocation distances + allocations in subsequent rounds.

If you are in catchment for DCHS but don’t meet the residency requirements then I think you would be considered in subsequent rounds (check their admissions statement).

In answer to your question no Bucks do not guarantee a grammar school place. If you are in catchment for schools and their allocation distances in the past would stretch to where you live then it is reasonable to assume you would get a place. Actually some WHS usually allocate OOC.

All the allocation info is on Bucks CC website.

Ignore me: I thought it was DS. It is DD of course. So Beaconsfield High, Burnham Grammar and Wycombe High are all worth a shot. Check residence requirements though. I would be inclined to accept what is offered rather than wait for a second round at DRCH. That might never materialise. The Bucks web site has lots of useful info on it.

If the OP were to put DCHS 1st and then (for eg) WHS 2nd and her dd qualified. She (more then likely) wouldn’t be offered DCHS in the 1st round but would (probably depending on distances) be offered WHS. if a space were to be available at DCHS in 2nd round she would then be offered it. Putting DCHS above other schools (grammar or other) does not stop you from being offered them. You are offered the highest places school which you are eligible for.

If DCHS is the OP’s preference she should put it 1st - you can only be allocated a school if you’ve expressed a preference for it.

KittyMcKitty · 11/11/2020 17:51

^ so she would accept WHS and would still be eligible for DCHS in subsequent rounds.

PresentingPercy · 11/11/2020 18:10

I didn’t mean not to put DCGS but second round might not materialise either. So accepting what you are offered is important.
