GCSE's summer 2021 - timeframe question?

When does study leave start normally?
When are exams held normally?
Are they going to be delayed more than 3 weeks (my school saying maybe as so many kids / year groups off up north)

Is there ANY chance England will follow Scotland and cancel exams?

Our school normally only starts study leave after half term (so 2 weeks into exams), but still requests pupils attend for any subjects they haven't yet done exams in.
Some schools no longer do any study leave.

Exams normally run the 2 weeks before half term until 2-3 weeks after, with a 'catastrophe catch up' day end June.

Currently they are saying delay start by 3 weeks (except for 1 paper for Maths & English Lang to still be held before half term), but finish by 2nd July (so 2? week delay).
If they delay any later it is going to make marking difficult so I don't think they will. they've already pushed the results day back a week, any later will push to the following term...

They can obviously cancel exams right up until mid May, so who knows. But at the moment they are planning to go ahead.

I'm just going with the flow. Smile

Argh - thanks.
Hoping to move to Scotland next summer so any more delay is a pain.

I was on your other thread.
I really can't see them delaying more than currently.

52andblue, I hope we do not cancel the exams as in Scotland. Doubt I wou ok d trust CAG. Beside, my kids Y13 and Y11 are primed for exams in 2021

Apologies for the typo:

I meant to say ‘doubt I would trust CAG’

@52andblue hi i heard in the news that Wales are considering it and going for assessments which makes me think...will our children be the only ones taking the exams?

I think it depends on which boards they are sitting their GCSEs. the 3 weeks delay is for GCSE but not clear it also includes I-GCSE or AQA for instance

Study leave is not beneficial to all and only benefits a few who actually study so the vast majority of schools do not have a study leave.

As Teen has said, usually they want you in lessons between exams. I still have a copy of Ds's GCSE timetable which included all the extra classes his school put on so it says for Tuesday 11th June

8am-9am GCSE maths booster class
9.15am Exam - Maths GCSE paper 6 1hr 30 minutes
Period 3 history which would be his normal lesson
12.55pm History booster class
13.30 Exam - History GCSE 1hr 45mins
After school Science revision for anyone who was in the history exam as the next morning was the chemistry exam, which also had a pre-exam booster at 8am.

That was one day out of 22 exams and 2 oral exams.

I won't lie it was brutal and was revision class attendance was compulsory. This is an outstanding academy school that gets incredible results because school bend over backward to help the students achieve their best.

Secondary school is compulsory until 30th June however most exams were finished by 15th June so once you had done your last exam you were not expected to come into school. I am saddened about the exams being pushed back because that half term "break" in the middle is important.
