We’ve made it into year 12 and rapidly approaching the end of the first half term .

Lots of challenges we could never imagined as we started the year but we’re all keeping on keeping on and this thread is for anyone who would like to jump on board to share the rather unusual journey this is turning out to be.

Jumping on board!
Although without a compass or any any other navigational tool 😂
Thank you for new thread @FoolsAssassin

KingscoteStaff · 13/10/2020 21:10

I have 2 life jackets, 1 rubber dinghy and an inflatable flamingo.

TheySeeHerRowling · 13/10/2020 21:13

I hope we're not sailing up a certain notorious creek - everyone check you've got a paddle Grin

A calm week so far for dd, but Covid has finally reached her sister's school, so how long the calm will last is anyone's guess

Piggywaspushed · 13/10/2020 21:13

I bring with me the magic walls of school.

EwwSprouts · 13/10/2020 21:14

Joining the ride in a socially distanced fashion.

EwwSprouts · 13/10/2020 21:18

Should be fair week here and on the waltzers it's still "scream if you want to go faster!" Seems fitting GrinGrin

ScrapThatThen · 13/10/2020 21:20

Hello I might pop in. Dd year 12 burst bubble so virtual learning this week. At least she had a few weeks to settle in to sixth form in a new school in a new city!

RedskyAtnight · 13/10/2020 21:31

Jumping on board and hoping the tide is flowing in the right direction :)

I was so sure school would be shut/we'd be self isolating by half term, I realised today I had no idea when it actually was, so have had to play "guess where on the school website they hide the term dates" to find out. Another week and 3 days. Fingers crossed.

AnneOfCleavage · 13/10/2020 22:00

Another week and two days here til half term for us.

I heard from a friend (who works in a primary school) that primary schools won't be shutting for a mini lockdown only secondary but not heard anything from our school as yet so not sure how reliable that is.

EerilyDeleted · 13/10/2020 22:41

Jumping on board too, thank you for the new thread Flowers

ChristopherTracy · 13/10/2020 22:41

Has anyone else had the ominous Teams training at their schools 'just in case'? DS was scathing that anyone would need help to operate Teams and I can see his point.

Zandathepanda · 13/10/2020 22:41

We have a 4th or 5th (?) teacher with confirmed COVID but it’s ok apparently as all the teachers are socially distanced at 2m at all times so it affects no pupils. Which begs the question how did they get it then? And also just how long are their arms when they hand the homework back to individuals into their hands?

(Apologies to any teachers out their - feel for you but SLT’s explanations are a bit questionable cos we all know what actually is happening in real life)

ChristopherTracy · 13/10/2020 22:43

And something like 60 Year 8s sent home today. Though two weeks ago it was 90 sixth formers though DS wasnt one of them.

Zandathepanda · 13/10/2020 22:44

Spelling Their/there not so good after bake-off wine consumption

Piggywaspushed · 13/10/2020 22:47

zanda , I literally throw worksheets at students from a 2 m distance. They rarely land in the right place. As my DH is clinically vulnerable, I do think I am a tad more cautious than many...

Teachers are rubbish at keeping away from each other, tbh.

Piggywaspushed · 13/10/2020 22:49

DS was coming back round to Spanish. Then a cancelled lesson today. No explanation.. sigh.

Zandathepanda · 13/10/2020 23:12

Dd is vulnerable so wasn’t impressed when the teacher put their arm across her and touched her arm in the process to flick through her work. Neither had masks on. As Dd said, she hasn’t been that close to her grandparent since March. That teacher’s colleague is one that’s off now. Roll on half term.

Piggy I like the throwing idea. Maybe make paper planes for accuracy though?!

OrangeCinnamon1 · 13/10/2020 23:12

Sorry all been so busy with work! Dd has inset today, couple of cases at her college, more worried about the Uni I work at, best social distancing behaviour not happening apparently Hmm

Fiddlersgreen · 13/10/2020 23:13

Thanks for the new thread.

I don’t post often but I try to keep up with everyone.

@Piggywaspushed did they get the Spanish teacher yet?

cariadambyth · 14/10/2020 06:58

Thank you for this new thread. I very rarely post but follow it avidly. It’s the first one I look at when I come on mumsnet and find it such a comfort. My dd has thankfully had a smooth start in Year 12 and proudly announced last night that she hasn’t cried once yet over A levels! I do hope everyone stays safe and well. Roll on half term.

Piggywaspushed · 14/10/2020 07:00

Nope fiddlers!! Grr.

PaddingtonPaddington · 14/10/2020 07:32

Jumping onboard. Like others can’t believe they have nearly managed a half term already and the schools/sixth forms/colleges are still open.

DD was due her first progress report this week but said they have all been delayed and it’s now due next week instead.

ealingwestmum · 14/10/2020 08:29

Thanks for the new thread Fools, and the well wishes from all. DD is fine, just frustrated as still no results. One of her friends keeps contacting her every few hours asking, as the mother is highly anxious, wants to walk the dog with another school parent today but can’t take the risk until she knows DD’s status. Her DD is still attending school, but mum is clearly fixated on one possible (and remote) transmission chain. Grrr.

Half term for us from Fri. All good on the Parents’ Eve calls; she’s got some work to do to win over the Head of English, which is no bad thing, but the feedback grated on her at first. 24 hours needed reflection girl here...

Heifer · 14/10/2020 08:43

Hurray a lifeboat ! am I allowed onboard even though we are in the dreaded Tier 3? I had been inside the house for 4 weeks as had viral labyrinthitis. DD has been self isolating, then home live online lessons as 6th form sent home. So she hasn't been out at all (played hockey on saturday)..

So we are now both well enough/not self isolating, looking forward to half term and bang tier 3, can't go anywhere or do anything really. (apart from together).

I'm not complaining about the restrictions if they are needed - I am vunerable myself so wouldn't have been out at a pub with friends anyway but feel alittle miffed as we live on the Wirral where numbers are much lower than Liverpool, but as we are part of City of Liverpool we are also Tier 3. I do worry about DD and how she will cope the 2nd time around.

School wise, everything seems to be ok. Had some tests although being home as made them difficult. Feedback seems to be good, although not totally sure how she is doing really.

I had a catch up phone call from her form teacher yesterday but I was about to start a zoom meeting with the dog psychologist (1 yr old cocker spaniel with issues)... so couldn't chat. It's nice that the school are trying to keep in touch. Hoping I get to chat to her today. It would be nice to find out when parents evening is, if ages away when do we find out how they she actually getting on etc.

Piggy - so your DS didn't stop Spanish? hope it gets sorted ASAP!

Agree with someone else that this is always the 1st thread I open in MN :-) I started on MN when DD was 2, and was chatting in the bar area, actually made some MN friends who are still on my facebook page, meet up with some of them over the years. so this is the new bar - tbh it does say a lot about my life now :-)

Wheresthebeach · 14/10/2020 09:20

Thanks for the new thread. Haven't been around much due to other issues taking loads of time.

Piggy hope they get Spanish sorted - its a popular language so you'd think it would be a priority.

All okay at DD's school Covid wise. Half term will be good for everyone I think. Had a virtual parents evening, which was odd as there was very little to discuss but nice to 'see' some of the new teachers.
