mobile phones in secondary school South West London

My daughter is in a secondary school where the students are allowed to keep mobile phones with them all day at school, which seems to mean that a lot of students spend break and lunch time looking at phones/ apps and showing what they look at to other students etc. Some of the stuff that is being shown to my daughter I'm quite concerned about. Also I would prefer it if the students spent break and lunch times talking to each other rather than looking at phones! Is anyone aware of any girls or co-ed schools in South West London where phones are either not allowed on school grounds at all or if taken have to be handed in for the school day?

Graveney bans phones

Great, thanks both of you. Good for Graveney I think that's an excellent decision by them.

DD's secondary you have to register their phone with the school and it must be below a certain value. They have to be put in bags and not visible from when they arrive until when they leave.

Any phone seen is automatic confiscation and parents have to come and retrieve.

Seems nuts to me that they are allowing children to have phones during school hours.

DC at 2 different London independent secondaries. At one they’re meant to be in their locker all day and the other I think it can be in their bag but must be switched off all day. I would say that both rules not particularly adhered to! Less lunchtimes clubs and general supervision etc at the moment than usual so I think the phones are coming out a bit at lunchtime when they’re in classrooms and no teachers are around...

I’m all for no phones in school but actually the no phones at all policy at Graveney would put me off sending a child there. (Applied but hadn’t read that rule..).
I wouldn’t be happy with my child getting London public transport or walking to school without one ( risks of mugging outweighed by benefit of having one!).

Our school doesn't allow phones to be used. Students have to switch them off and keep them in their pocket. If they're seen they'll be confiscated. I assumed that was standard practice, but maybe not.

Radnor House (coed) Phones must be switched off during the school day and placed in locker.

Kingston Grammar is one school that seems to have a liberal approach to phone use....its been discussed on here before!...if you want to search out the threads.

I looked round one independent school where the child tour guide answered her phone mid tour. It did put me off.
