Dd needs a laptop for sixth form and hopefully to last through university. Never had chrome book before but looks like the way to go. How much memory and what processing speed does she need? Does she need one for 500 or will 300 be more than sufficient?
Have you bought one that you'd recommend to me? Preferably from currys/pc World as her dad is buying it and I know he will want to use the pay over a year option. Thanks!

Should have said she would also use it for watching netflix so needs to cope with that.

My DD got a Chromebook, she got it just before she started year 7 and she just started year 12 and no issues at all for her. She also watch Netflix on it and again no issues. I on the other hand used it once and struggled with the fact it didn't have word but maybe that's just lack of patience on my behalf! Great value laptop.

DC has just started sixth form. We got the Asus C223 Chromebook from John Lewis for £180 and it's doing the job just fine. My main criteria was that it was small and light so it could go backwards and forwards to school without being a burden. However he does have a proper laptop for use at home - the Chromebook is just for portable use.

@Linneasweet you can put MS Office apps on the newer Chromebooks. In fact you can install any apps from the Google Play Store.

Thanks bringunby, but her version seems to old, about over 5 years now!

Also, my son does watch Netflix on his Chromebook - so long as you have good wifi it'll be fine.

Chromebooks are aimed at people who store everything online, so don't need much storage space on the device itself. If you wanted to watch movies or listen to music offline then it might be more limiting.

The app versions of MS Office are lighter on features than the full fat versions. I told my son to think of the Chromebook as a big Android phone with a keyboard and he was happy with that.
