West Midlands Cricket School?

Can anyone advise which would be the best schools for cricket in the West Midlands? Which should we be looking at? Shrewsbury? Malvern?
DS2 is an enthusiastic and good cricketer and we're wondering where his skills would best be harnessed. We accept he may have to board from 13+ to attend such a school but prefer Midlands - ish. Boys only or co-ed. We would like a school with a good academic track record. Are there any schools which do particularly attractive scholarships for cricket?

Most of the traditional, sporty boarding schools should have a fairly decent cricket offering. I don't know of any that are super focused on it as it's only played for one term (the shortest one!)

Bromsgrove offers sports scholarships (and means tested bursaries if that would be necessary for you) and they have a fantastic sporting record. Rated top 5 in the country most years I think. Lots of successful rugby and hockey players have come from there over the past 20 years. One of their old boys opened for England in a 20-20 game in the past week or two. They have a Director of Cricket so it's considered a major sport there. But I would shop around. Hopefully others can comment on more schools.

Good luck!

Oundle is academic and very strong on cricket plus in Midlands.

Many thanks for the suggestions. I will take a look at Bromsgrove. Oundle is over in the East for us and in the same travel time we could get to Winchester / Eton so not that 'convenient' as we are way out West.

Shrewsbury and Malvern are both definitely cricket schools. Both with beautiful pitches and connections with their respective county age-group squads. Training facilities more cricket-honed at Shrewsbury with a dedicated indoor cricket centre. Malvern has a specific cricket scholarship, though both offer various sports scholarships.
Academics are stronger at Shrewsbury. Go visit both and talk to the Director of Sport and Admissions Teams.

Many thanks Takeittotheboss - that's very helpful.

I found something called the National Schools Twenty20 Cricket and it gives results from previous years. The winners in the last 4 years have been: Malvern (2019), Millfield (2018 and 2016) and Sedbergh (2017).
Thes schools which have made it to the semi finals in the last 4 years are: Sedbergh, Felsted, Cranleigh, Millfield, Shrewsbury, Merchant Taylors, Bedford and Charterhouse.
