How to use credit card to pay for school fees?

Hi,

Just wondering if you guys have any idea how can I pay for the fees using my credit card?

On the invoice the school has only given me the sort code and account number to pay via, direct debit, together with the cheque option.

I read on the previous thread that one mm has been using tesco credit card to accumulate points and I would like to do the same.

Thanks in advanced

Er, talk to the school?!
They may not accept CC.

As above, we can't tell you if your school will take them. They may not take them because of the associated fees, or they may put a cap on the maximum transaction.

There are companies you can use that will process a payment for you via your credit card, like Billhop. It does take a few days to go through.

Our school only accept bank transfer, not cards. I think that's fairly standard.

I would presume morally they won't accept credit cards so that parents don't get into debt paying for fees they can't afford?

Wasn't aware of that. However, Billhop’s service fee is 2.95% of the transaction, so possibly out ways the CC bonus/points!

Ring accounts & ask to pay by card? I have done this before when I have lost the bill & don’t know how much to pay by bank transfer. They then say “what type of card do you want to pay with?”. Might work?

I tried to do this once and the Bursar said they would only accept direct cash payment. No moral hazard - they just don't want to pay the associated fees and open themselves up to payments being clawed back.
And in our case it wasn't because we couldn't afford it, it was because Fidelity messed up cashing in an investment so the money wasn't in my account in time. In the end the Bursar agreed to late payment with no penalty so it worked out fine.

They are now very strict because of rules around money laundering.

Bump.
really?
we are now paying by card no problem at all. London IB school.
thinking of change to british schools in london :
they all now will NOT take cards?

Your update suggests you are using cc because you can’t afford the fees. Which is why cc is not an accepted form of payment.

BadAmbassador · 19/10/2022 10:18

Not a good idea if you can't actually afford this but...pay for other things on the credit card that you would have used your normal account for.

Candyfloss2 · 19/10/2022 10:40

I simply love to collect my cc point !
