My DS14 has to do a stint of volunteering and has to start clocking it up now. Any ideas during lockdown/ semi lockdown as I think options are going to be limited due to Coronavirus and social distancing.

Litter picking or gardening? A friend of mine's son has been chalking up hours by helping keep a local graveyard clean and tidy.

Are there any charity shops near you? Our local one had 30 (mainly elderly) volunteers, and that has now dropped to 8.

Animal sanctuary?

Will they take 14 year old boys though? I am thinking that everyone is very wary of having people around.

We've received loads of emails from DoE with suggestions on how to continie gaining your award (or a version of it)
Take a look at their website - here is the latest link they sent.

My daughter worked at a local animal farm/sanctuary, there were boys and girls of assorted ages helping out. The same daughter is now volunteering at our local charity shop. They were very pleased to hear from her, ultimately if they don’t have the staff they can’t open.

Food bank?

Some national charity shop chains routinely accept volunteers from the age of 14. I would imagine many of their usual elderly volunteers have had to step down and they may be desperate for help.

Sorry, nc as v specific. My dd has taught her friend an instrument via zoom. Obviously only works if he can play well.
DD used it for her volunteering, the friend used it for her skill, music teacher has oversight and happy to sign off.

Local foodbank. Ours would be grateful as most of their volunteers are over 70.

My son (14) helped a local elderly man who was shielding. He baked him cakes and took them over. Had a chat with him on the doorstep, wrote him some letters and picked up small bits of shopping when he needed it.
This was a friend of my mums so was known to him already though.

I thought you meant that the Duke of Edinburgh himself was volunteering!

We have some community gardening and park groups who take DoE volunteers. It may also be worth asking local churches whether they have support in place for locals in need which he could help with (shopping, running errands etc) - good luck
