Any day kids at boarding schools (senior not prep)?

what's your school doing about mixing boarders and day kids in September?

Being kept in year group bubbles.

Full boarders are sleeping in different houses to weekly and flexi boarders. Dorms are only sleeping children from the same year group and form.

Form groups are a mixture of day and boarders.

Similar to above. Focus is on year group bubbles, so reducing contact between boarders from different year groups. I think the school would be very unwilling to separate boarders from day pupils, as they generally work hard to ensure there is as little divide as possible between the two.

Ours are keeping day kids apart for everything apart from socially distanced lessons. So they don't eat or socialise with the boarders .

I'm not entirely sure what's happening at my daughter's school yet, but they certainly plan some combination of year group and house bubbles; as there are day houses for the day pupils, extra distancing won't be so much of a day vs boarder issue. Though it occurs to me it is going to be tough on my daughter (who boards) as more of her friends are not in her house. She's going into upper 6th though and will keep herself busy ...

Her school's biggest challenge is meals as they don't regularly eat in houses.

Lots of ideas were floated. I think the day and boarders will be taught together. I think the day may bring in packed lunches so not eat with the boarders. I am not sure I think they are working it all through though.

The outbreaks in boarding schools will likely come from the staff and the day pupils I guess as they will have more contact with the outside world.

Our day pupils can't mix with th boarders apart from socially distanced lessons. It will be utterly miserable for the day kids. Not sure I buy the no outbreaks among boarders as they are all allowed to go on exeat after three weeks.

My son's full boarding school will isolate them within houses for the first two weeks and continue to teach semi-remotely, and have cancelled the first exeat. That's a 'luxury' that only the full boarding schools can probably do.

The boarding houses are going to have bubbles within the boarding house. From what I can make out, the day pupils will have their own area in the house. It does sound miserable. Why not let them join the bubble that their year group is in if they will be in lessons and sport together.

Day pupils will be allowed in their own house but only at break and lunch time - not before or after school. When in the house they can only be with their own year group and in a designated area of the house.

DC is going into yr 13 and the school have a yr 13 only house so probably won't affect them as much as other years though.
